Jack Denison, who resides there. Returns E. P. Leavitt, super intendent of Crater Lake na tional park, returned yesterday by motor from San Francisco where he has been attending a personnel training school of region 4 of the national park service. He was an instructor at the school. ' Cars Collide Cars operated by Clarence Stelle, 17. 345 North Bartlett street, and Mrs. Elmer Hall, Cherry Lane, collided yes terday afternoon at the Pacific highway and Stewart avenue. Mrs. Hall's report on the acci dent had not been filed at city lice station up to noon. To California Mr. and Mrs. Jack G. Fowler, 34 Vancouver avenue, left by motor today for Sacramento, San Francisco and Santa Rosa, Cal., on a combined business and pleasure trip. They plan to spend several weeks in California and will visit with Dr. D. F. Herd In Sacramento, brother of Mrs. Fowler. Fewer Apply Applications for temporary auto licenses filed at the sheriff's office to date number 350, with a noticeable decrease of applicants yester day and today because, It was thought, of the rain and Christ mas buying. Jennings and his of fice assistant, Mrs. D. D. Davis returned this morning from Portland where they attended the northwest congress of op tometrists. Safe Albert R. Santo, who Is serving at a Hawaiian naval air station of the U. S. navy, is safe and In good health, it was stated in a censored form postal card received by his parents. Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Santo of 620 South Ivy street Snew at Camp Six Inches of fresh snow were reported at South Fork CCC camp above Butte Falls yesterday afternoon Rogue River national forest of fice said today. Telephone con nections were still disrupted between the local forest office and Butte Falls and Butte Falls and Union Creek. "JUNGLE GIRL" Pedestrian Hit Morris B Leonard, 45, 2503 Hillcrest road, operated a car that struck a pedestrian at Oakdale avenue and Main street late last night it was shown in a report on file today. No injury was Indicated Mr. Leonard, in his report, did not Identify the pedestrian but police said It was Robert Sling er, 25 Washington street. Backs Into Truck John P. Nansen, 59, Route 3, Box 18, reported that a car backing out of a driveway ran into his dairy truck when it was stopped at East Main street and Portland avenue yesterday morning. The driver of the car was quoted as raying he did not see the truck in the fog. The filed report did not identify the car driver. I Son Safe Mr. and Mrs. W. R. 1 Bullock, 615 Columbus avenue, ; received a telegram from the . American consul in San Fran cisco yesterday saying that their son, Ralph Bullock, missionary In Hongkong, China, was safe. Mr. Bullock has been In China for the past eight years and has been unable to secure passage home. He is a brother of Mrs. K. Knutson. 819 West 13th street. Attend Concert Mr. and Mrs. Sebastian Apollo, 131 South Grape street, and Miss Phoebe Swem, 217 East Main street, returned home this morning by motor after attending the ac cordion concert of Galla Rlni in Klamath Falls last evening. During intermission Miss Swem was presented as guest accor dionist and played as her selec tion, "Poet and Peasant Over ture" by Von Suppe. o Receives Cable Mrs. Harold Loo per, 419 West Second street, received another cable this morning from Midway island where her husband is stationed in defense work. The cable. rent yesterday, stated that all Oregon men on Midway were safe. Mr. Looper has been at Midway island since May. 1. Earlier in the week Mrs. Looper received a brief cablegram say ing her husband was "OK." oo Blade Tips Car The blade of a snowplow being operated by Frank W. Denzer, 35, 18 West ern avenue, collided with the wheel of a car operated by Victor Conover, 28, Shady Cove, on the Butte Falls highway yes terday afternoon, it was shown in a report on file today. The car was ditched, the report said. Denzer s report said there was not enough clearance for the tip of the blade. Case Stolen On file at city police headquarters today was a report that a brief case type of leather grip was stolen from s car owned by George H Pledger of Oakland. Cal., when It was parked on North Grape street near Main street y ester day morning. Pledger, a furni ture salesman, said the case contained papers and receipts of no value to anyone else. The case was impressed with the gold letters G. H. P. Anyone finding it was asked to leave it at Weeks it Orr furniture store. On Furlough Ray Ettlnger, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Et tlnger, 824 West 12th street, arrived home yesterday from Pensacola, Fla., on a 22-day furlough. He has been in train ing In naval aviation since June 8. Ettinger flew from Pen sacola to San Francisco and completed his journey north by train. C. chairman at Griffin Creek announces that the meet ing which was scheduled for the Grange hall Friday has been postponed until after January 1. The new shipment of material will not arrive until after that date. The annual Christmas party will be held at the Grange hall Saturday at 8:30 p. m. There will be treats for everyone and a small gift exchanged. POLICEMAN SUICIDES Portland. Dec. 18 VPi The coroner reported that Alexander f. kodd, 42, city policeman, committed suicide last nlnht hv shooting himself through the forehead. He was in ill health. The widow and a son survive. he will be stationed. His young er brother Bob has been In Seat tle, Wash., where he Just passed his physical examination for naval aviation. He was expected home today. Mrs. Burns is the wife of the acting Associated Press bureau chief in Honolulu and a sister of Glenn L. Jackson, president of the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce. Her fa ther is W. L. Jackson, president of the Democrat-Herald Publish ing company which owns the Democrat-Herald, daily news paper In Albany, On the day the Mall Tribune published an item telling of Mrs. Burns' safety in Honolulu, the same page contained a descriptive story written about the attack on Honolulu by her husband.
