Msdford Visitors Among Medford business visitors this morning were Clarence Hunter and Floyd Chapman of Phoenix and Louis Clark of Oak Grove. Shopping here yesterday were Mrs. Glenn Hoist and Mrs. Leonard Freeman of Central Point, J. L. Britt of Wagner Creek, Carl Bogel of Griffin Creek and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Ward of Gold Ray dam. Osteopaths Meet Dr. Blaine Pruitt of Grants Pass gave a paper on "Complications of Pregnancy" at the meeting of " the Osteopathic association Mon day evening at the home of Dr. and Mrs. George Jennings, Saginaw drive. Attending were Dr. and Mrs. W. W. Howard, Dr. Russell Sherwood, his mother, Mrs. Kate Sherwood, Dr. Pruitt and Dr. and Mrs. tgjennings. The next meeting will be with Dr. and Mrs. Pruitt in Grants Pass in January. To Conference Capt. S. M. Tuttle, . chairman of the Jack son County Council of Defense, Frank Hull, coordinator, and probably some division heads will attend Gov. Charles A. Sprague's defense coordination conference in Salem Monday. The Medford men will leave for Salem Sunday. One of the ob jectives of the conference, the council here explained, is to simplify and standardize defense practices, procedures, terminol ogy and educational programs for the entire state. Blackout Hint Clarence Crank, - 25 - Portland avenue, suggested today the use of showcard water paint on win dows as a good blackout meas ure. Mr. Crank explained that dark colors in showcard paint, If applied with several thick nesses on the inside of windows, were an effective means of as suring blackout. The paint may be washed off when it Is no longer needed. He said, how ever, not to use it on outside of windows as contact with wa ter removed its effectiveness. Dawn Delayed Hugo Froh reich, former Medford resident row living at Grants Pass, re ported in Grants Pass that hts hens had trouble yesterday finding their nests in the dark and as a result their eggs were scattered everywhere. His hens are accustomed to waking up at 6 a. m. when the electric lights are turned on but blackout postponed their dawn and the hens awoke in the dark. Be tcause they couldn't find their nests In the prolonged darkness they scattered their eggs about the poultry farm, Frohreich said. To Join Nary Ten men are expected to leave by train to night for Portland to take final medical examinations for enlist ment in the U. S. navy. If they pass, they will go into recruit training immediately at the San Diego. Cal., naval station. Eight men left for Portland last night to take the final physical check up. The 6:30 mass during the week has also been discontinued until further no tice. The change in the regular schedule was made so that ev eryone might be enabled to cooperate with blackout regula tions, announcement from the church said. Walker, man ager of the hall, said today Earlier dancing hours will en able the public to return home before the time of blackout for this city. Walker said. The change in hours was made in order to cooperate with the Jackson County Council of De fense, he stated. . Defense Aid Thomas C. Par ker, assistant superintendent of Crater Lake national park, said today that employes in the park are cooperating 100 percent in national defense by manning three aircraft warning posts on 24-hour schedules. All work Is voluntary with employes of the park taking their shifts during the night and carrying on usual employment during the day, he stated. Eighteen employes re side at the park during the win ter months, carrying on ranger and snow plow activities. Of this group 15 are married and the posts are manned during the day by their wives.
