Solid color blankets are the best sellers . . . medium or Trench blue, dusty rose, green, gold, peach, wine or white . . . plaid blankets in light or dark colors. Ombre toned woven border ef fects featured in some of the better blankets. Rayon satin or taffeta binding In self color or two tone satin binding are most popular. Plaid or floral patterned binding, a new style detail on the higher priced gift blankets, all of which offer lasting comfort. Monogrammed blankets for the girl or boy away at college are offered In darker practical colors as well as the lighter tones. Monogrammed blankets for the home In the usual solid colors or white with monogram 12 Inches high In color to match the binding. Monograms may be stitched or appllqued. Comfortables Wool or down filled comfort ables are the preferred gift types In medium and high priced brackets. The more luxurious types of down filled comfort ables, In shimmering satin or rayon taffeta. Soft pastels or Jowel tones, many with simple or elaborate trapunto type em broidery. More practical and less expen sive gifts are the wool filled comfortables or quilts with cov ering of lustrous rayon taffeta or satin in pastel or high shades. Straight lines or scroll quilting, trapunto embroidery or scal loped sides are some of the in teresting style details of wool filled quilts. Bedspreads Beautiful styling and exquis ite colorings have placed chen ille tufted bedspreads on the preferred list of both practical and luxurious gifts. One of the newest develop ments In styling is the use of un cut chenille combined with regu lar tufting. Chenille tufted bedspreads combined with punchwork in elaborate pastel center or border bow knots or bouquets have rem designs of flower medallions, lnine gift appeal. A Lewis bag with matching change purse in draped broad cloth with clear-as-crystal ludte frame. There's a merry Christmas "in the bag" when the giver remem bers handbags, for young and old. There are plushy little bags, in muff or animal shapes, for the little miss who found pennies In the toe of her stocking, and needs purse for her wealth. Other "little girl" delights are miniatures of grown-up hand bags, complete with slide fasten ers and pocket mirrors, in either fabric or leather. For old sister there are plaids and pigskin, wools and wonders in smooth leather that borrow their colors from Christmas it self holly red and brightest green. Grown-up gift lists, for sister, mother, aunt or sweetheart, can be checked off with a minimum of fuss and worry, at any smart hand-bag counter. Muff bags In fur fabric, or coating fabric trimmed with fur, are a wel come gift for most any woman. Leather bags, with multiple compartments, and a generous sprinkling of zipper-pockets, are a delight to older women par ticularly those who take their budgeting seriously. And for lighter moments, the assortment of evening bags is dazzling, and quite the answer for her gift In glitter versions of rhinestones or sequins; and lovely heirloom types in tapestry or metallic fabrics. Fog As a diversion, King Gustaf V of Sweden does embroidery work and makes presents of his handiwork to members of his family. Landing Beam Sought For Ports Portland, Ore., Nov. 26. W) The federal government has recommended that the Portland Columbia airport be equipped for instrument landings during fog, W. A. Cuttings disclosed yesterday. A similar recommendation has been made for the Everett, Wn., airport, the federal airway com munication aide said. The equipment, used only ex perimentally to date, provides a descending radio beam on which pilots can glide to landings.
