PAGE SEVEN NEW DODGE FLUID DRIVECARSCORES IN ECONOMY TESI Twenty-six miles to the gallon of gasoline is a good economy record, in the opinion of Les ter C. Taylor, owner and man ager of L. C. Taylor, Inc., local Dodge and Plymouth dealers. "It if an especially excellent showingC says Mr. Taylor, "when you consider that Dodge is powered with a new 105 horsepower engine. That's a lot of power and a lot of mileage to come from so little gasoline." Back of Mr. Taylor's terse statement lies a story appealing impartially to the all-important cause of gasoline conservation and to the motorist's personal and individual pocketbook. The story, as related by Mr. Tay lor, is that Dodge engineers in developing their new 105 horse power engine, succeeded in combining power, smoothness and flexibility with unusual economy. When many tests and trial runs yielded uniformly interest ing fuel economy data, the com pany's sales heads organized Dodge dealers for a great nation-wide demonstration of the newest Dodge Fluid-Drive mo del in a 100-mile economy test carried on simultaneously in all parts of the country, over all sorts of roads and under' great ly varying driving and traffic conditions. The idea was that if the results of these runs, as reported to the factory, gave the expected noteworthy picture of outstanding fuel economy, the world was entitled to learn about it. "Our own contribution to the nationwide demonstration con sisted of a 110.9 mile trip to Roseburg," Mr. Taylor explain ed. "The actual mileage of this test trip was 110.0 miles, aver age speed was approximately 45 miles per hour, weather con ditions were perfect and traffic moderate. Only one brief stop was made and no stops were necessitated by traffic signals.. 'To make the record authen tic, we enlisted the coooeratinn of Herb Grey, advertising man ager of the Mai! Tribune, as official observer. Mr. Grey per sonally checked the mileage and gasoline consumption and cerunea nis observation in a signed statement made before a notary public." Flock of Warplanes Mysteriously Leaves Carolina Maneuvers With army in the field. Nov. 15 (IP) Sudden withdrawal of combat planes for a secret des tination has cut into the air power which the army, the navy and the Marine corps has ready for the army maneuvers in the Carolinas, it was learned today. An unimpeachable authority disclosed that aerial units, al ready here for the army general headquarters war games Nov. 15-30, have been recalled with out explanation. "We don't know where they have gone but our guess is over seas," a high officer said. He would not say whether the planes were army Navy or ma rine, how many there were or whether the pilots also were sent on the mission. His position was so high that the informa tion could not be challenged. KILLING ARREST Pomeroy, Nov. 15 (IP) Pros ecutor Pat McCabe said today the bullet which killed R. B. Westicott of Garfield while he was hunting elk November 9 had been traced to a rifle owned by Roy W. Knighten of Delrio and that Knighten had been arrested on a charge of man slaughter. The rifles of all hunters who had been in the Blue mountains near here November 9 were seized so the check could be made, McCabe said. The scene at dawn shows Jackson and Dickenson fighting a duel. The all-male cast for "In The Zone" acts aboard a grimy little freighter, where an English sea man is under suspicion of being a traitor. The fear that a depth-bomb will shiver the little freighter into nothingness car rles a high tension throughout the play. The colorful costumes of the court figures in "As You Like It" contrast with the drabness of "In The Zone." For the first tme the stage production will be supplemented by a narrator. UP) Paul Fenner and Carl Jackson, unable to find room 814 in a public building, went to room 804 and discovered they were wanted there the Federal building Jail. (if) Per sistent rumors abroad, credited here to Russian and British sources, that peace negotiations with Finland are in progress were met today in authorized quarters with the statement: "When you are fighting bol shevlsm you cannot simply break off the battle when you have achieved certain military objec tives." (The Finns have said that they are fighting only for re-establishment and securing of their old frontier).
