Medford Residents On Extended Trip Mr. and Mrs. George N. Fisk of route 1, Medford left during the past week on an extended trip through the central states to Baton Rouge, La., where they will spend the winter with their son, Dr. Harold N. Fisk, profes sor at the University of Louisi ana. They plan to visit Kansas City, Mo., Cedar Rapids and Gil lette Grove, la., where they spent their childhood, returning to Medford in March or April. Their daughter and grand daughter, Mrs. Silas King and Miss Mary Ann King accompan ied them to Portland. Club Entertained At Wilson Home Mrs. Ida Wilson was hostess to the Past President's club of the Degree of Honor Protective association at her home, 7 Chest nut street Tuesday evening. Games and a social hour were enjoyed. Yellow flowers centered the table and place cards fashioned like Mexican jumping beans marked the covers for Edith Elliott, Matilda Dietrich, Kathe rine Smith, Mabel Bennett and the hostess. (Photo by Shangle). Caroline Mace Weds Mr. Clay In Reno Rites Of Interest to Medford friends la announcement of the mar riage of Caroline Mace of this city to John C. Clay of San Francisco at Reno, Nev., Nov. 1. The ceremony was read at 11 a. m. by the Rev. Brewster Adams of the First Baptist church. The bride chose for her wedding outfit a royal blue dress with navy accessories. The couple will make their home in San Francisco, Mr. Clay being employed at the Presidio. Sprague To Be Guest Speaker At Dinner Gov. Charles A. Sprague will be guest speaker at a dinner meeting of the Sons of the American Revolution at the Grants Pass high school home economics room November 17 at 6:30 p. m. The dinner com memorates the adoption of the Articles of the Confederation by the continental congress Novem ber 17, 1777. An Invitation has been ex tended the Crater Lake chrr ter of Daughters of American Revolution to attend. Reserva tions for the dinner may be made by telephoning Hugh W. Hamlin, 2968, Medford. Following dinner an open meeting will be held in the gymnasium of the new high school at which time the public is invited to hear Governor Sprague in another address. A patriotic program will be pre sented by the Sons of the American Revolution. Mrs. Roy Bishop Pro America Speaker Mrs. Rov T. Bishnn of Port land, president of the Oregon cnapier ot fro America, was guest speaker at a luncheon meeting held Wednesday at Hotel Medford. The goal will be to provide at least one dozen cookies for each man in Oregon camps. Mrs. Cor nelius Collins is chairman and others interested are invited to offer their services. Sport Dance Follows Game Daughters of Job and their in vlted guests enjoyed a sport nance at tne masonic temple Fri day evening following the Med-ford-Ashland football game. Balloons painted to resemble footballs, yardage lines and paintings of football players and rooters were used about the hall adding to the football spirit. Fortune telling and refreshment booths were arranged about the hall. Colony Club Members Te Dine Colony club members will hold a dinner at the clubhouse tonight at 7 p. m. Cntrr I a Woorfrnw Medford Rebekahs Attend Conclave At Goldendale Forty-three Medford Rebekahs attended the 35th annual Re bekah convention held at Glen dale, Ore., Thursday. The all- day session included business meetings, election of new offi cers, degree work and other lodge activities. Inez Ferguson of Central Point was elected chairman for the coming term; Mrs. C. Burm inghouse of Ashland, vice chair man and Elizabeth Bates re elected secretary-treasurer. A welcome address was given by Matie Heller of the Glendale lodge followed by a response by Jeanne Burke of Grants Pass. Seating of officers. Introduc tion of visitors and officers fol lowed with roll call of conven tion officers. Glendale lodge presented a memorial service followed by routine business and a basket lunch. The aftertioon session includ ed group singing, tribute to past assembly officers; high points In 90 years of Rebekah lodge Ruth, No. 4 given by a Jacksonville Rebekah member. Edyth Kel ley, state chaplain of Roseburg gave a report of lodge activities In Rebekah A. R. A. Mrs. McAlpine addressed the group at the evening exercises which was opened by music by the Glendale high school band, Introduction of assembly offi cers and visitors, degree work by Medford lodge. A tribute to the American flag was given by Gold Hill lodge past officers. Artists Invited To Participate In Art Week Rogue River valley artists and craftsmen are Invited to partici pate In the art exhibit to be held In this city, 32 South Cen tral avenue across from the Craterian theater November 17 to 23 in observance of National Art Week. Exhibits will be on display during the week by Rogue val ley artists and it is hoped to have "art in action." School children are invited to inspect the display. A surprise no hostess dinner opened the eve ning followed by gifts from their secret sisters. The affair hon ored the birthdays of the hon ored guests. Attending were Mrs. Mary Payne, Mrs. Jane Hemstreet, Mrs. Ralph Atwood, Mrs. Elder Conser, Mrs. Harry Barncburg. Mrs. John Grinsted, Mrs. Hans Rammin, Mrs. L. P. West, Mrs. Gurden Stagg and Don Conner. Bridge and pinochle were at play with prizes in pinochle be ing awarded to Mrs. Ovelman and Mrs. Rammin and Mrs. Stagg holding high score at bridge. Betty Hardy Is Honorary Pledge Miss Betty Hardy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. V. Hardy. 516 South Ivy street has been pledged to Theta Epsllon honor ary at Sacramento Junior col lege where she is a sophomore. Miss Hardy is program chair man for the Home Economics convention being held in Sacra mento this week. Theta Epsilon membership is based on out standing work in home econom ics. . Medford Residents Motor To San Francisco Mr. and Mrs. Earl May, Mrs. W. H. Bailey and Mrs Fred Fick left Friday for San Francisco where they will spend several days visiting relatives and friends. The Mays plan to visit their son, Wayne, who is em ployed by the United Air Lines in San Francisco. They will return to Medford the middle of the week. VI " - a .- an m 3 -J I LTT MM r-- Barbara Austin, William Jacobs Wed In Reno Announcement is made of the marriage of Miss Barbara Jane Austin, daughter of Mrs. Fred John Boenig of the Old Stage road to William Patterson Ja cobs, son of Mrs. Myrtle Jacobs of Phoenix at Reno, Nev., Octo ber 27. The ceremony was read by the Rev. William Case, in Reno. The bride wore a sol dier blue silk ensemble and Mrs. Wiloby Conners, her sister and only attendant wore a black suit with moss green accessories. Wiloby Conners was best man. Mrs. Jacobs is a graduate of Milbank, S. D., high school and attended Southern Oregon Col lege of Education. She has been employed tn the office of Dr. C. I. Drummond. After a wedding trip to Lake Tahoe they will make their home in San Francisco. Beta Sigma Phi Hold Formal Banquet, Pledging Beta Sigma Phi sorority held annual formal pledge banquet Tuesday evening in the small banquet room of the Hotel Jack son. Following the banquet for mal pledge services were held at the home of Mrs. Fred Under wood, president. Catherine Conroy and Emyln Griggs were candidates for the pledge services which was fol lowed by a cultural program conducted by Mrs. Roland Hal per. Plans were discussed and completed for the benefit bridge party to be held Wednesday by Beta Sigma Phi. Local Girls Are Initiated Among 12 pledged initiated into Delta Theta, dramatics hon orary at Marylhurst college Thursday were two Medford girls, Mary Wilcox and Patricia Wilkinson. Candlelight initiation ceremonies were held at the close of a formal dinner which climaxed pledge week. Members had previously pass ed a series of try-outs with An- geline Danner, club president, presiding at the pledge cere mony. Miss Wilcox is a sopho more and Miss Wilkinson, a freshman. , Miss Wilkinson is the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Wil kinson, 714 Park street, and Miss Wilcox is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lucian H. Wilcox of Phoenix. Luncheon Bridge At Robinson Home Mrs. V. J. Robinson enter tained a group of friends with luncheon bridge this week at her home on 31 Geneva street. Holds Initiation Service Mrs. Jane Kesler was Initiat ed into Adarel chapter No. 3, O. E. S. of Jacksonville at the Masonic temple in Jacksonville Thursday evening. Mrs. Ina Hu son, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Todd, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lue and Mrs. Lulu Saulsberry reported on the reception they attended in Prineville last Saturday hon oring Mrs. Hazel Foster, asso ciate grand conductress. Mrs. Violet Wilson, chairman of the instruction committee, assisted by her committee gave a demonstration of the work of the order. The occasion also celebrated the birthday anniver sary of the worthy matron, Mrs. Fay Peters. She received a gift from the chapter. The altar was draped In mem ory of Mrs. Minnie C. Letson, past grand matron, and Col. Robert A. Miller, charter mem ber of Adarel chapter and first worthy grand patron of Oregon. The hall was decorated with baskets of chrysanthemums and roses. Later refreshments were served by Mrs. Dorothy Waldron and Mrs. Ina Huson. A large birthday cake was cut by the worthy matron. ADRIENNE'S Mrs. Ed Mann Is Hostess To Lions' Auxiliary Mrs. Ed Mann was hostess to the Lions club auxiliary at her home during the past week for the November meeting. Follow ing a covered dish luncheon dis cussion was held on early col lection of old toys for the fire men to mend for Christmas dis tribution. Mrs. Earl Sims was elected secretary to complete the term of Mrs. Ralph Cook who resigned. I Attending were Mesdames Roy Elliott, Ray Marti, Earl Miller. Henry Zacharison, Lyle Thur man, C. C. The date has been set for December 12. Get-Together Club To Hold Luncheon Get-Together club members have planned a cafeteria lunch to be held Armistice day at the Eagles hall, 42 North Front street. The affair will be open to the public, beginning at 12 ' noon. The drill team will spon sor a candy booth and bazaar. A potluck luncheon for mem bers of the Get-Together club will be held at the hall Wednes day at 12 noon. Later a busi ness meeting is planned and of-ft ficers urge members to attend.
