PAGE ELEVEN NAVAL AVIATION RECRUITERS TO ' BE HERE OCT. 13 A naval aviation cadet selec tion board will apend October 13 and 14 here to interview eligible young men interested in becom- iH111 1 a lo, Lieut. Jo R. Forkner ing naval reserve aviators. Jack M. Carpenter, navy recruiter here, announced today. The board will be composed ot Lieut. Joe R. Forkner and Lieut. (Dr.) William M. David son. Headquarters will be In the Hotel Jackson, office hours 9 a. m. to 3 p. m. To be eligible for cadet train ing, candidates must be between 30 and 27 years old, physically fit, unmarried and citizens of the United State. In addition they must have attended college for at least two years or long enough to have acquired half the credits to graduate .with a degree. At the successful completion ot the training course, which lasts about six months or so, cadets are commissioned to spend about three years with tlie navy. Carpenter explained. During this time their pay amounts to as much as $245 a month, with a bonus of $500 for each year of their commis sioned service after they have been returned to an inactive duty status. For those aspiring to a career as pilots In civil aviation, there is afforded an opportunity that cannot be ob tained elsewhere to acquire a comprehensive training and avi ation background, Carpenter de clared. Dave Holmes of Medford, University of Oregon sophomore, has been appointed circulation manager for the Oregon Emerald, it was announced here today by the business manager. The Emerald, student news- that congress enact legislation permitting the merging of American telegraph companies. The report said that the Pos tal Telegraph company "is in Imminent financial danger" and added that the corporation now has less than $750,000 remain ing from a $5,000,000 working capital loan it obtained from the government on April 17, 1940. Saint Mark's Will Join Observance Communion Sunday Saint Mark's Episcopal church will participate next Sunday in the observance of world-wide Communion Sunday. Members of most of the Christian de nominations are joining in this observance. ' Communicants of Saint Mark's church are urged to attend either the 8 o'clock or the 11 o'clock celebration of holy communion. At the latter service the rector will preach. Announcement was also made today of the formation of a Saint Mark's Friday luncheon club to meet each week at 12:10 at the Jackson hotel. This meet ing is restricted to men. Friday of next week marks the initial meeting. Friends of the church as well as members are given a cordial invitation to attend.
