Cum mings, Jr., Central Point, was fined $10 by Judge William W. Allen in city court yesterday afternoon when he pleaded guil ty to violating the baiic traffic rule in driving hit car. Cum- mingi' age wai not listed. Car rire The fire depart ment' chemical crew put out a ahort-eircuit blaze this morning in the car owned by Mrs. R. W. Clancy, 204 Medford Heights. The short-circuit occurred in the cigarette lighter on the dash. No damage was done. The car was parked at the Clancy home. To Get Wings William H. Walker, son of Mrs. W. W. Walker of 842 East Main street and the late Mr. Walker, is among 126 aviation cadets ex pected to receive their wings soon at the army's Luke field, Phoenix, Ariz., flying school. sWr. Walker has passed all pre liminary phases of the training. Meeting Tonight All resident and visiting Legionnaires were reminded today of the regular semi-monthly meeting of Med ford post of the American Legion in the armory at 8 tonight. Plans will be started and com mittees appointed for the annual celebration of Armistice day and a large attendance was therefore lequested by E. W. Winkle, post commander. Back From North Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Wing returned Monday night to their home on the Old Stage road from Salem where they went with their daughter Jean who matriculated at Willamette university. Mr. and Mrs Wing and their daugh ter left by motorcar last Friday and spent the week-end in Port land. On the return trip Miss Jean stayed in Salem to begin her first year at college. Supervisor Miss Helen Her bert reported for duty today as recreation supervisor at the farm security administration migrant labor camp here. The camp will hold its third amateur show in the recreation tent at 8 p. m. tomorrow, Sam Reed again act ing aa master of ceremonies. The usual weekly dance will be held at 8:30 Friday night, Happy Gillette's Musical Mountaineers providing the music. Hawaii Service Sergt. Joseph W. Cushman, local regular army recruiter, said today that five men from Medford and vicinity can now be accepted for the in fantry in Hawaii. The men, Sgt. , Cushman staged, will go by train to San Francisco whence they will sail for Hawaii aboard an army transport. They will be enlisted for three years but com pelled to remain in Hawaii for only two years from the date of arrival in Honolulu, he related. Council To Meet An informal meeting of the Medford city council was called by Mayor H. S. Deuel today for 7:30 p. m. Monday in council chambers at city hall to formulate tentative budget plana to submit to the citizens budget committee. Main purpose is to acquaint council men with tentative budget fig ures sufficiently so that they can work intelligently with the citi zens committee when it meets. Mayor Deuel said. Improved Improvement was reported today in the condition of County Clerk George R. Carter, who recently underwent an operation in St. Vincent's hos pital, Portland, and Harry D. Norton, former circuit judge, who has been ill at his home. 408 South Oakdale avenue, for several weeks. Carter has left ( the hospital, and will spend the next week or so in the Imperial hotel before returning here. Dinnen, 30, a transient was sentenced to five days in Jail when he pleaded guilty in city count this morning to a charge o' being drunk in a public place. To Address Lions Dr. Erma Gordan of Portland, prominent lecturer on Chinese relief and considered an authority on Ori ental conditions, will address Medford Lions at their regular meeting at the Hotel Medford at 6:30 tonight. Entertainment will be furnished by the Eve Prentice junior accordion band. Horses In Highway W. A. Hood, 35, Central Point, hit one of three horses on a curve in the Pacific highway a mile north of Gold Hill about 12:30 a. m. yesterday, it was stated in a re port on file today. Hood said in his report that he tried to avoid the horses, crossing the highway, as he drove his truck southward, see From Nebraska Mrs. Lulu Eagley and Dr. and Mrs. C. M.
