Court Ready The tennis court at fire department headquarters, improved with a hard surface, was in use again yesterday. The firemen did the improvement aWork themselves. No Meeting The September meeting or volunteer firemen will be omitted because (he assembly night falls on Labor day. Chief Roy Elliott an nounced yesterday. Constable 111 Constable Nich olas S. Young was confined to his home, 509 North Riverside avenue, yesterday. He has been sick for several days but was reported as somewhat improved yesterday. Sister Here Mrs. Creston Hoare of Eugene is here visit ing her brother, Gordon Barker, member of the city fire depart ment She is registered at the Hotel Grand. On September 7 Mrs. Hoare and Mr. Barker will leave for Cove . to visit their parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. I. Barker, Mr. Barker to remain there for his two weeks vacation and Mrs. Hoare to stay until late in October. Mrs. Hoare plans to sail from San Francisco Octo ber 24 for Honolulu whither her husband, a government employe under civil service, was recently transferred. Mrs. Hoare came to Medford last Tuesday after see ing her husband off at San Francisco. Have Good Luck Robert and William Beadle left by car Thursday for their home in Big Horn Basin, Wyo., after visiting for several days with their brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Art Reed of Phoe nix. The visitors were accom panied by William Beadle's son Bill. Mr. Reed took his guests and George Heffner, Phoenix, to call on his brother, Harry Reed, at the Klamath Indian agency and Harry took the guests fishing in the Upper Klamath lake. The fishermen had exceedingly good luck and the visitors got a mess of fine trout. Art Reed was unable to oo any fishing himself, however, because of injuries he su;rt six weeks ago in a logging acci dent. The visitors were much Impressed with southern Ore gon. Mr. Reed stated. Mrs. McReynolds and their daughter Roma plan to leave by automobile tomorrow on a fortnight's vacation trip to southern California. Arrive For Visit Mrs. Cora S. Carman of Portland and her son David arrived from Wash ington, D. C, yesterday to spend the week-end with Mrs. Gar- man's daughter, Mrs. Fletcher Fish of Phoenix. Mr. Carman is in the employ of the SEC in Washington and plans to return east after a brief visit here and in Portland and San Francisco. Driver Tests Examinations of applicants for licenses or per mits to operate motor vehicles will be held here Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week. Ward McReynolds, district su pervisor, announced yesterday. Applicants were asked to report to the examiner in council chambers on the top floor of city hall between 9 a. m. and 3 p. m. S. circuit court of appeals will be held annually in Portland commenc ing on the third Monday of Sep tember, and another term will be held in March or April, Victor A. Tengwald, deputy clerk of the U. S. district court, announced yesterday, particu larly for the benefit of southern Oregon attorneys. The term is for the new ninth circuit. A term of the ninth circuit appeals court is to be held also in Seattle, Wash., annually commencing on the second Mon day of September and another term is to be held in March or April, Mr. Tengwald said. Okay Dam Funds Portland, Aug. 30. (P) The Farm Security administration has approved a $9,000 loan to build a storage dam at the out let of Beaver lake in Wasco county. There are nearly 2,000,000 French prisoners held by the Germans in occupied France, Germany, Poland, Austria and Czecho-Slovakia.
