E MAIL'S THE AIR CONDITIONED STORE House-to-House Canvass Is Planned in Medford; Rural Effort in Hands of Grange Organized collection of scrap aluminum for defense purposes will be started throughout Jack son county Monday and con tlnued through July 29 with a large number of organizations actively assisting the sub-corn mittee in charge. Final details were completed last night at a sub-committee meeting attended by representatives of number of organizations. The Fluhrer bakery has do nated use of its trucks to pick up the scrap aluminum left at rural area stores to be deslg nated by the sub-committee. Col lections will be made daily be ginning Monday, said Frank Hull, coordinator of the Jack' son County Council of Defense, sponsor of the campaign. Hous-to-Hous In Medford organizations will help in making house-to-house canvass for the scrap metal Workers In this service are to report to the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce for in structions beginning at 9 a. m Monday. A crib to hold the scrap alu minum Is to be erected on the west side of the chamber of commerce and all who can do so were asked to bring the metal to the chamber of commerce, where Boy Scouts will unload It and place it in the crib. The bin Is to be 16 feet long, 12 feet wide and 6 feet high. At 10:30 a. m. Thursday the Hunt Theaters will present a special first-run picture, "There's Magic In Music" at the Rlalto theater. The admission will be one piece, or more, of aluminum. Starring players in the picture are Allan Jones, Susanna Fos ter, Margaret Lindsay and Lynne Overman. Granges to Aid Masters of all the Granges of the county have offered their services and much of the rural collection will be In their hands. Some of the Granges already have started the collection. "This campaign Is a serious matter; it Isn't play, for the scrap metal is really needed for defense," Mr. Hull declared. Organizations represented at the sub-committee meeting last night were Boy Scouts, exten sion service, Fluhrer's bakery. Hunt Theaters, Zonta, American Association of University Wo men, Colony club, Jackson County League of Women Voters, American Legion auxil iary, D. A. R., Sojourners club. Rogue River Valley College club and Pro-America. The Elks lodge and Medford post of the American Legion sent word they would take part in the campaign. Mrs. Edith W. Bralcy, subcom mittee chairman presided. 100 WPA Projects Closed in Oregon Portland, July 18. W E. J. Griffith, state WPA administra tor, said today that approxi mately 100 WPA projects in the state had been shut down since June 28, and 2,037 workers re moved from the rolls. Projects aiding in national defense were not Involved, he said, and those in which closure will cause sponsors a heavy loss also were being continued. ROSEBURG NINE WINS LEGION BALL TITLE Marshfield. July 18. . The Roseburg Legion Juniors defeated the Marshfield Junior baseball team here 11 to 8 yes terday. The victory gave the locals the district 4 champion ship. It was said that the hops could be raised although con siderable work would be necessary. Logger Killed Tillamook, Ore.. July 18. (IT) Frank J. Fogo. 34, was fatally Injured yesterday as his log truck rolled down a 20flfoot embankment on the Tra?k River road east of here.
