Lehmanowsky and W. W. Hair. Returns Dr. Bert R. Elliott, Route 2, returned by train this rooming from Portland where he attended the Pacific coast dental conference. Crass Fire The state forest patrol was called yesterday to extinguish a grass fire near the Agate school. The fire spread over four acres. A pumper crew put It out. Business Visitors Among Med ford business visitors yesterday were W. C. Payne, Ashland, Mrs. Richard von der Hellen, Pros pect, Mrs. Trevor Thompson, Gold Hill, and Mrs. Leila Rogers, Rogers Rogue River ranch. Mrs. Rogers is the mother of Ginger Rogers, the movie actress. Book Available Rogue River national forest headquarters to day announced that copies of a new edition of the "National Forest Scaling Handbook" could now be procured by applying to the Superintendent of Docu ments, Washington, D. C. Many logging firms and employes are interested in the book, head quarters said. Ball Posted Mrs. Margaret Fuhrman of Route 2 posted $5 bail in city police station yes terday after being cited for driving a car without an oper ator i license. Her machine, police reported, collided with a car driven by M. E. Olson of 111 Newtown street at West 10th and Laurel streets yester day morning, causing the Olson nobody. Jeanette McKee of 1107 Reddy avenue and Kenneth W. Walker of 804 Keene Way Drive operated cars involved in a minor accident on Main street near Central avenue Thursday afternoon, according to a report on file today. Plane Passengers Mr. and Mrs. G. Mr. Campbell is employed at the CCC district construction office. Crass Burns The fire depart ment'i chemical crew put out a grass lire near the K. O. Stephenson Lumber company. McAndrews road and Court street, late yesterday afternoon, No damage was done. The grass was set on fire by a carelessly- tossed cigarette stub, Chief Roy Elliott reasoned. Camper Fire A small fire that burned about a quarter acre in fir timber on Elk creek yesterday afternoon was attrib uted by Rogue River national forest headquarters today to a camper. The blaze, discovered by Howard Ash from his nearby home, started along a trail in a pile of logs. A forest service crew of three men put the fire out. Job Offered F. W. Younger. son of Mrs. R. L. Younger of 318 south Peach street, received a radiogram at his home here today offering him an appoint ment as associate inspector of signal corps equipment in Brook lyn, N. Y. The message came irom Lleut.-Col. George P. Bush, signal corps. Brooklyn. Mrs. Younger asked that the radio gram be mailed to her son who has been employed for some time in engineering work at the Mare Island navy yard, Vallejo, tanr. IS. McVey charging assault and beating, following an altercation in front of a South Front street club last night in which Webber charged that McVey knocked him down with a blow to the side of the head. McVey, an employe of the club; struck Webber after the latter allegedly used harsh lan guage to a woman employe of the establishment. Judge Curry, after listening to the woman's testimony, dismissed Webber's complaint. LEAVE FOR CAMP Company A and headquarters detachment, third battalion, 186th Infantry, the former Ore gon national guard units here, left for their Fort Lewis base early this morning after enjoy ing a leave at their homes since Tuesday. The convoy of transport and supply trucks started rolling out of the camp at the old fair grounds soon after dawn. The boys were entertained exten sively during their brief stay here. DAKAR DEFENSE By the Associated Press. Dakar, strategic port on the westernmost tip of French Af rica nearest to South America, is being strengthened to combat any possible landing attempt, informed circles in Vichy report ed today as French colonial quarters openly expressed fear of prospective "complications" in the wake of U. S. occupation of Iceland. The French disclosed no de tails of the preparations at Da kar, where British and free French forces made an unsuc cessful sortie last September.
