The so-called eastern gasoline shortage is not a shortage of production but solely of trans portation facilities. Adequate pipeline facilities would cure it, according to the administration officials and petroleum experts. And Georgia lies athwart the natural path of these pipelines. Southeastern railroads argue construction of these pipelines would cripple them. So when oil interests sought permission from the assembly to lay trans-Georgia lines, the railroads massed their strength in opposition.
