Cooper, formerly company commander t Camp Alkali lake, reported at Medford district CCC head quarters today on official busi ness connected with the disband. ment of Co. 3567. Mr. Cooper has been temporarily assigned to Co. 5 178, Camp Prescott. Depart Chaplain Clifton R and Mrs. Pond departed yester day afternoon for San Francisco where the chaplain will report again for duty. Later in the week he will return to Fort Bliss. Tex., where he is stationed as chaplain with the first cavalry division. :.- New Schedule Father Fred- crick J. Deschenes, CCC district chaplain, was at headquarters here today rearranging his schedule of religious services at the camps. Under the new ar rangements. Father Deschenes will have seven camps to visit. New Digger F. L. Somen. local contractor, is putting a new 49-horse power Insley shovel through its paces in digging the basement at Holly and Eighth streets for the soon-to-be moved Fluhrer apartment building. The machine was delivered by Clif ford G. Andrus, representing Portland equipment firm. Club To Meet Rogua Valley Radio club will meet at the club rooms in the Brill Metal works, 109 East Eighth street, r Friday at 8 p. m. Mr. Van Amburgh, who was at Camp Alkali lake, which was disbanded on June ?1. is temporarily assigned to Camp Prescott, prior to reporting to Camp Harrison Gulch, Cal., for! duty. Laundry Stolen Mrs. Ivah Murray of 1033 West 11th street reported to city police today that a laundry box filled with soiled linen was stolen from her back porch sometime since Sun day afternoon. She said the back screen door was unlocked by someone reaching through a hole in the screen and unhook ing the door from the inside. Mrs. Murray told police she had been absent from her home since Sunday afternoon. Plana Passengers Mr. and Mrs. S. Fanning arrived from Sacramento. Cal., by United Malnliner this noon. Barrett of 408 Edwards street drove cars involved in a minor accident at North Riverside ave nue and Jackson boulevard last night, a report on file said today, Cars operated by Boyd Bellamy of Grants Pass and T. Charlie Chaplin's Heralded Hit Wins Approval Fans Here That Charlie Chaplin s new picture was eagerly awaited by valley showgoers was proven last night with the largest the atre crowds seen here for many a day for the opening of "The Great Dictator" at the Craterian Theatre for a four-day run. All boxoffice records were smashed as hundreds of fans were turned away at the boxoffice. It is safe to assume that, when the run of "The Great Dictator" is over, an all-time high will have been established in attendance rec ords. With Jack Oakie, in the great est role of his career heading the supporting cast, "The Great Dictator" presents Chaplin as the lovable tramp the whole world knows becoming dictator of the very country he is trying to flee. Because he resembles the real dictator, and vice versa, the tramp becomes the power in the country and the "big shot" gets tossed into a concentration camp. The picture shows Char lie as the Chaplin a past genera tion hailed as king of comedy, with the first quarter hour of the nicture very reminiscent of "Shoulder Arms one continual round of laughter! It also pre sents Charlie out of character at the close, addressing the world with all the passion and elo quence at his command on the condition of humanity at this time. In the 95 minutes separating these antipodes, the picture of fers comedy and tragedy, satire and melodrama, slapstick and sentiment in alternation with Chaplin star, writer and di rectorclaiming his due in a production that compares in kind to no predecessor from any film studio.
