As for cod liver oil, there are three rational excuses for giving it to a child, namely, for the sunshine vitamin D, the na tural vitamin A and the Iodine in this or any other fish liver oil. Today each of these may be had in pure, accurately meas ured form, tasteless or not re pugnant to anyone, even so good that many children beg for more. After all there is no remedial virtue in mere nause ous or evil taste. Finally, the use of fish liver oil is a hold over from the days of empiric medicine, and it is absurd to at tempt to surround it with pseudo-scientific hokum. On the other hand the use of the three constituents, vitamin D, vitamin A and iodine, is as scientific as any principle of modern medi cine.
