Irene Dunne and Cary Grant return to the Craterian theatre screen today for three days. Vivid, absorbing story of an errant newspaperman and his wife. Columbia's "Penny Sere nade" is based upon .Martha Cheavens' magazine novel, and enacted by a stellar cast which includes Beulah Bondi and Edgar Buchanan. In "Penny Serenade," Grant appears as a young newspaper man who meets and is immedi ately attracted to a music store salesgirl, portrayed by Miss Dunne, who as definitely falls in love with the reporter. They are married, one New Year's Eve, half an hour before he must leave for Tokyo on a new assignment. Three months later, the girl Joins her husband. Grant's casual attitude towards responsibilities invites a barrier between the two. The earth quake, the loss of the baby they had been expecting and the knowledge that they can never have a child of their own, cre ate further problems. Returned to America, and set tled down as the proud editor of a small country newspaper, Grant attempts to make his wife happy. Taaj Kiddies tee Returns to Roxy "Lost Horizon," co-starring Ronald Colman and Jane Wyatt, is the picture brought back by popular demand to open the Roxy Theatre's "Big Week of Frank Capra Hits" today at the popular showhouse. The film, adapted by Capra and Robert Riskin from the novel by James Hilton, will play for three days. The well-known story is that of three famous men of Europe who are marooned in the snow capped mountains of Tibet and are taken to Shangri-La, Hilton's paradise of peace and content ment. Others in the cast are John Howard, Thomas Mitchell, Edward Everett Horton and Isabel Jewell. The picture is being single billed because of its length and popular appeal.
