Strong, 79, whose uncle engaged Abraham Lincoln In a target match to prove superiority of his repeating rifle which later was credited with aiding the Union army, has followed the family tradition. Strong., who worked with his uncle, Christopher M- Spencer until his death several years ago, has submitted a new de vice to Canadian officials for straightening rifle barrels and stepping up light arms produc tion. "My uncle often used to tell me of his target match with Lincoln." he said. "He invent ed the first lever action repeater and went to Washington to sell It to the Union army, Lincoln was interested in the new gun because he waa quite a marks man himself. They set up tar gets on the banks of the Po tomac river and shot it out. My uncle won the match but Lin coln laughed it off. He said my uncle was a younger man." Cen.
