A. Todd on East Ninth street last Wednesday evening at 8 o'clock. Miss Edith Todd be came the bride of Robert L. Brantley, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Brantley of Ashland. Dr. Sherman L. Divine officiated. The bride, youngest daughter of the Todds, wore her mother a wedding dress of cream colored silk of Grecian style with train and a long veil of tulle which was also part of her mother a bridal attire. She carried a bou quet of Talisman roses and del phinium. Miss Olivia Todd was her sis ter's maid of honor. She wore a dress of turquoise net and car ried a Colonial bouquet. Jack Walker of Ashland, brother-in-law of the bride groom, was best man. The couple spoke their vows beneath an arch effect. Miss Betty Wilfley played the wed ding music and the mnid of hon or. Miss Olivia, sang "Oh Prom ise Me." A reception for the fifty wedding guests followed the im pressive ceremony. Later the couple left on a wedding trip. For a going-away ensemble, the bride wore a grape colored sport dress and blue and white acces sories. Mrs. Todd and the bride groom's mother, both wore navy blue ensembles and corsages of lilies. . I Mrs. Brantley attended Med- ford high school and the South ern Oregon College of Educa tion In Ashland. Mr. Brantley. who is the assistant manager of the produce department of Carl Schallinger company of Snn Francisco, Cal., attended Uni versity of Oregon and business college in San Francisco. Puruckers Home From Vacation Home from a vacation spent on the coast are Mrs. C. B. Pur ucker and daughter. Miss Ann Purucker, who returned to the city Tuesday evening. The Pur uckers motored to Maplcton last Friday, accompanied by Mrs. H. I w.'ither, who had been 'isit ing in Medford. They traveled via Diamond lake to Eugene, and to Mapleton where they were the guests of the Walthers at their home on the Suislaw river. They motored down the coast to Cold Beach for a short stay before coming on to Med ford. Bill Reinecke Visits in City An interesting guest In the city from Hollywood Is Bill Reinecke. who arrived Tuesday evening to visit his grandmoth er. Mrs. C. B. Purucker, at her home on South Orange. Mr. Reinecke Is associated with the Walt Disney studios and is now on a three weeks' vacation. He Is making plans for a hike over the Sky Line trail while In Oregon. Former Resident Weds in Idaho Interesting to manv valley friends of the C. F. Bowmans is the announcement of the mar riage of their son. Bob How man. and Miss Bethel Birchmier of Weiscr, Idaho. The wedding was solemnized In Napa, Idaho, on July 5 and the couple are now residing in Bnker. Mr. Bowman attended the high school in Medford. where his parents and brother. Jack Bowman, now make their home. Witts Fly to Visit Friends Mr. and Mrs. Richard Witt ' left last evening by plane for Eugene to visit until this eve- ring with Mr. and Mrs. E. A Ilnnr. nrf . Bowman of Ashland and Valentines Hosts To Movie Actor At Rogue Home Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Valen tine were hosts at their attrac tive home on the Rogue River Friday evening for a small din ner party following a day of fishing. Mr. Valentine, accompanied by William Staples and Ray-j mond Walburn, Hollywood mov ie actor, enjoyed a boat trip from Bybee bridge to Gold Ray dam where all of them caught the limit of fish. They used spinners and flies and plan to try their lurk In tha same vicin ity again today. Others enjoying the evening at the Valentines were Mrs. j Staples and the couple's daugh ter. Sally Anne. Mr. Walburn is a house guest of the Staples at! their summer home on the Rogue. They maintain nearby homes in Beverlv Hills. Easterners Leave For Exposition After Visit Here Nell, Guy and Ruth Scouten, Bonita Weatherby of Spartans burg Penn.. and Miss Dorothy Blakeslee of Sherman, N. Y., left early Thursday morning to visit the San Francisco world's fair. They had visited relatives in Salem and spent several days in Medford visiting at the home of Mrs. Nellie Wall, who is a cousin of the Scouten's. While here they enjoyed a trip to Crater Lake, also visited Med- ford Corporation and Holmes! Bear Creek packing plant and j the House of MysWy. The young people will go east via Los Angeles and visit Miss Weathrrbys aunt at South gate. They plan to leave Mon day for Pennsylvania. Young, pastor of St. Peter'i Luthern church and Mrs. Young were honored at a cleverly arranged surprise party recently in observance of their sixteenth wedding anniversary. Giving the enjoyable social af fair were members of the con gregations of the Medford and Grants Pass churches. The Rev. Mr. Young and his wife were informed of the party after church services and were escorted by the elders of the congregation to the scene of the affair in the church recreation rooms. They were seated with the elders at the guest of honor table which was beautifully dec orated with white appointments and bouquets of rose buds at either end. The centerpiece was a spray of flowers given the Youngs by the Grants Pass church. Other tables seating the congregation were decortsted in the same motif. Fredrick Guetzlaff accompan ied his mother at the organ dedi cated "O Perfect Love" to the honor couple and the entire I group sang "Happy Anniver sary." Mrs. E. C. Toms presented Mrs. Young with a beautifully I decorated cake after which re freshments were served by Mrs. E. C. Toms, Mrs. Otto Krueger. Mrs. LaVerne Miller and Mrs. Roland Holmes. Later Mr. Krueger presented the Youngs with a world bank in which a free will offering ! from the congregation was placed and given as a token of appreciation for the couple's willing services and whole hearted friendship to all. Mr. Guetzlaff acted as toast- master for the occasion and later the Youngs expressed their ap preciation for the lovely party The Rev. Mr. Young told of his career during the past sixteen years as follows: In 1924. shortly after he and Mrs.. Young were married, he received a call from Roseburg to serve as missionary at large for southern Oregon and north ern California. In 1926 he and Mrs. Young moved to Ashland to be nearer his mission fields which were growing more rap idly. At that time, he was serv ing Ashland. Grants Pass. Med ford, Mt. Shasta, Weed and Dunsmuir. In 1928 he organized a congregation in Ashland since a larger percentage of Lutheran people lived in that vicinity. Then. Medford grew to such an exieni oy jju, a church was built' and dedicated in 1931. Pastor Young has. since that time, been serving his congrega tion in Medford and Grants Pass. The enjoyable evening was brought to a close with every one singing "The Lord's My Shepherd, I'll Not Want." Rays Host to D a r , ikci.s uuhu Recent visitors at the home of i Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Ray on the j Oak Grove road were Mr. and Mrs. R. O. Cragin and son John j of Eagle Rock, Calif. They were ', enroute to their home from a vacation spent in the northern I part of the state. I The families are friends of j many years. Mr. Cragin and I Mrs. Ray having known each ' other in Maine over forty years j ago. Mr. Cragin is secretary of ; the Consolidated Steel Corpoia- J uon, no., ot Los Angeles. He ! has visited here frequently but this marked Mrs. Cragm's first visit to the valley. Members of the family pres ent were Seth Bullis and his three brothers and two sisters: Gilbert Bullis of Ferriday, La., Gardner Bullis of Lot Angeles, Raymond Bullis of Whittier, Cal., Miss Helen Bullis and Mrs. Ralph U. Boutelle, Medford. Others present were Mr. Bou telle, Mrs. Gardner Bullis and Seth Bullis' daughter, Miss Josephine Bullis. The Gardner Bullis' arrived in Medford yesterday to spend a month or two at the Boutelle home on Florence avenue dur ing the Boutelle's absence from the city. They left today with Gilbert Bullis for the east dur ing which time they will visit Mr. Boutelle's old home in Fitchburg, Mass. They expect to be away two or three months. Raymond Bullis is spending sev eral months in Medford from his home in Whittier. Rebekah Lodge Enjoys Meeting The August social meeting of the Rebekah lodge was enjoyed last week. After officers were formally seated, Gertrude Mof fat, noble grand called the meet ing to order. Ina Huson presented the lodge with fans which were enjoyed The pear committee reported sending 28 boxes of pears to the I.O.O.F. home in Portland. A large attendance was re ported at the Rebekah I.O.O.F. picnic in Grants Pass park, Aug. 18. All lodges in southern Ore gon were represented. Ashland Rebekahs invited Medford lodge to their 80th an niversary September 6. all mem bers being requested to dress in a style as near 60 years ago as possioie. STORE Group Discusses Festival Plans For Next Season Continuation of tha Shake spearean Festival through anoth er year will be formally recom mended to the members of the association in their October meeting by the executive com mittee, which met Thursday night in the Lithia Hotel in Ash land to discuss 1941 plans. While the committee under took no definite action, methods of re-financing the venture for the next year were discussed. Although the final box office figures for this season have not been tabulated, it is believed that the income will be under last year's as a result of the fire which last week burned a por tion of the back stage depart ments as well as 65 per cent of all costumes. Definite continuation plans were withheld at last night's meeting. New officers for the 1940-41 year will be elected in October. Mrs. Welch Visits In Washington City Mrs. Douglass C. Welch and small son of Medford, accom panied by Mrs. Welch's mother and sister, Mrs. R. F. Raber and Miss Ruth Raber of Tacoma, Washington, left Thursday eve ning for the Raber home. The Rabers spent the past few weeks in Medford, following a motor tour of California. Mrs. Welch will remain in the northern city for a month. During their stay In this city Mrs. Raber and her daughter were honored with a number of social affairs. Group Returns to Home in North Mr. and Mrs. Roland Flaherty and daughter Betty of Walla Walla. Wash., returned north recently after having visited here for a week with Mr. and Mrs. George W. Howard at their home on West Tenth street and Mrs. Alice Kincaid of South Central avenue. Eagles to Meet Thursday Evening Eagles Auxiliary will hold a regular meeting at 42 North Front street Thursday evening at 8 o'clock. Entertainment and refreshments will be in order.
