Large Gathering
Honors Pastor of
Lutheran Church
Rev. H. H. Young, pastor of
St. Peter'i Luthern church and
Mrs. Young were honored at a
cleverly arranged surprise party
recently in observance of their
sixteenth wedding anniversary.
Giving the enjoyable social af
fair were members of the con
gregations of the Medford and
Grants Pass churches.
The Rev. Mr. Young and his
wife were informed of the party
after church services and were
escorted by the elders of the
congregation to the scene of the
affair in the church recreation
rooms. They were seated with
the elders at the guest of honor
table which was beautifully dec
orated with white appointments
and bouquets of rose buds at
either end. The centerpiece was
a spray of flowers given the
Youngs by the Grants Pass
church. Other tables seating the
congregation were decortsted in
the same motif.
Fredrick Guetzlaff accompan
ied his mother at the organ dedi
cated "O Perfect Love" to the
honor couple and the entire
I group sang "Happy Anniver
sary." Mrs. E. C. Toms presented
Mrs. Young with a beautifully
I decorated cake after which re
freshments were served by Mrs.
E. C. Toms, Mrs. Otto Krueger.
Mrs. LaVerne Miller and Mrs.
Roland Holmes.
Later Mr. Krueger presented
the Youngs with a world bank
in which a free will offering
! from the congregation was
placed and given as a token of
appreciation for the couple's
willing services and whole
hearted friendship to all.
Mr. Guetzlaff acted as toast-
master for the occasion and later
the Youngs expressed their ap
preciation for the lovely party
The Rev. Mr. Young told of his
career during the past sixteen
years as follows:
In 1924. shortly after he and
Mrs.. Young were married, he
received a call from Roseburg
to serve as missionary at large
for southern Oregon and north
ern California. In 1926 he and
Mrs. Young moved to Ashland
to be nearer his mission fields
which were growing more rap
idly. At that time, he was serv
ing Ashland. Grants Pass. Med
ford, Mt. Shasta, Weed and
Dunsmuir. In 1928 he organized
a congregation in Ashland since
a larger percentage of Lutheran
people lived in that vicinity.
Then. Medford grew to such an
exieni oy jju, a church was
built' and dedicated in 1931.
Pastor Young has. since that
time, been serving his congrega
tion in Medford and Grants
Pass.
The enjoyable evening was
brought to a close with every
one singing "The Lord's My
Shepherd, I'll Not Want."
