Garden-fresh vegetables, as wall as other salad Items, are receiving top billing with local mer chants in connection with the local salad celebrity week. Most vegetables are now in season, and since the surrounding country produces a great number of these items, much interest is being displayed in this merchandising activity. The grocer's effort is built around salads as the easiest and most appetising method of utilising garden-fresh foods on summer menus. Turkish Women Take Up Modern Styles of Dressing Ankara . (U.f?) Future dress maker of Turkey practice what they learn at the Ismet Inou institute on no less wardrobe than that of the country's first larly. The -wife of President Ismet Inonu is a leader in the move ment to make Turkish women among the best dressed In the world. The Inonu institute Is a super vocational school with an enrollment of 720. Its goal Is to make Turkey self-sufficient in women's clothes. In this school girls' are train ed to become teachers In the arts of embroidery, cooking. sewing, fashion design, millin ery and pattern making. When they are graduated from the normal courses they are sent throughout the country to spread their learning. So far the in stitute has succeeded In gain ing a reputation of being the Paris of Turkey. No Paris cou turier boasts more magnificent ateliers and probably not as highly educated seamstresses. These students are forced to intermingle their study of the arts with history and geography and even some military science in event war becomes more im portant to Turkey than the lat est fashion foibles. Turkish women, who so re cently discarded veils and harem trousers, will not be con tent for long with the cheap imported ready-to-wears which now flood the market. Arthur Brown gave the his tory of the Grange, when and how it was started. Geography was given by Maude Port. Mr. Cordy gave, the agricul ture report and showed how to tell when peaches and pears are ready to pick. Nature study report was given by Eva McKee. Reading report wag a skit by Francis Mcffitt.
