And why shouldn't he, for hasn't the coming of this new industry to Oregon meant much to the farmers of eastern Ore gon and, indirectly, as a mat ter of fact, to all the people living within the state? Mayor-Commissioner-Publish er Aiken is proud of the fact that Malheaur county, with a population gain of 75 per cent in the 10-year period Just end ed, led all counties in the state in population gains. Of course, the coming of the beet sugar industry to Malheur and the development of the big irri gation projects in that section had much to do with this growth.
