The former Portland girl reached here from England with her two daughters and told an interviewer she would stay for "an indefinite period, prob ably for the duration of the war." Barnes, the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Barnes of Salem and correspondent for a New York newspaper, was ordered out of Germany June 21 for dissem inating stories capable of "dis turbing the friendly relations of Germany and other states." Mrs. Barnes said she last heard from her husband, a Wil lamette University graduate, at Istanbul, Turkey, 10 days ago while he was en route to Alexandria. Fred E. Wahl. bank here for 20 years. (P)- A toad war on hordes of raven ous cutworms cheered embattled Klamath farmers today. The toads moved in while farmers were busily fighting the insect pest with aerial crop dusting and other methods. . Aa Mrs. E. B. Looslcy of Fort Klamath described the scene. j phalanx of toads is moving re lentlessly across the fields, de vouring the variegated worms as if they were put there to pro vide rations. Augmenting this "Infantry" are seagull "bombers" wheeling overhead, supported by observ ation squadrons of noisy blackbirds.
