Society Clubs Reported by Nancy Heath Medford Residents On Eastern Jaunt Visiting thU past week at tht home of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Harris on Crater Lake avenue were Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Capon and daughters, Mrs. Antoinette Waller and Miss Damon Capon of Morganfleld, Ky. The guests are Mrs. Harris' mother, father and sisters. The visitors, accompanied by Mrs. Harris and Mrs. L. W. Buonocore, left yesterday by motor for Detroit via the Red wood highway and San Fran cisco, where they will visit the exposition on Treasure island. In Detroit Mrs. Harris and Mrs. Buonocore will take delivery of a new car and travel to New York where they will visit the letter's parents. Their return to Medford will take a northern route across the continent. Mrs. Thompson Leaves for Home Leaving today for her home In Los Angeles is Mrs. Claude Thompson, who for the past sev eral weeks has been the guest of her mother, Mrs. J. H. But ler and of Mr. Thompson's mother, Mrs. C. D., Thompson. While here Mrs. Thompson has spent considerable time at the Butler-Thompson summer borne at Diamond lake and In i(tlnff her brothers. Warren Butler and family, of Grants Pass and Arnel P. Butler ana family of this city. A. J. Johnson Home Scene of Party Twenty relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. John aton were guests at the John ston home at 202 Stark street Wednesday night, at a surprise party for Mr. Johnston. The evening was spent In playing games and refreshments Were served at 11:00. Out-of-town guests Included Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Davis, Mrs. E. H. Davis, Miss Esther Davis, Miss Cleo Mose of Central Point; Mrs. Ted Merryweather and daughter Jean Ann of Berkeley, Cal., and Clarence Boyd and son Wayne, of Eu gene, Ore. Former Residents Visit in Medford Guests at the home of Mrs. Cora Wilson in Medford are Mrs. Ida Dickinson and her daughter, Mrs. Grace Roberts. Both are former residents, hav ing spent many years in south ern Oregon and at one time owned the Redskin orchard near Table Rock. Mrs. Roberts, who makes 'her home in Portland, has been vacationing with her mother in southern California for some time. Mrs. Roberts will continue north by motor tomorrow and her mother will remain here for a few days and then continue south to her home in southern California. Zonta Picnic To Be Monday Invitations were in the mail this week for the Medford Zonta International picnic to be held at McKee bridge Monday evening at 6:30. The clever in vitations with the theme of "leave all your troubles be hind," contained a map showing the route to McKee bridge. Members are asked to bring their own service and their hus bands. The food will be furnish ed and according to the invita tions there will be no business meeting. Committee In charge of ar rangements Is headed by Miss Louise Basford. Marlorle Kelly Home From South Miss Marjorie Kelly returned to her home the first of the week from Sacramento, Calif., where she was a guest for a fort night of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Selby. Mrs. Selby is the former Jeanne Fabrick of Medford. With the Selbys, Miss Kelly alio enjoyed several days at the Gol den Gate Exposition on Treasure Island. Olive Rebekah Lodge To Meet Monday Eve The Olive Rebekah lodge will meet Monday evening at 8:00 o'clock. Gertrude Moffat, new. ly elected Noble ' Grand, will preside. This will be the first business meeting for this term. Plans will be made for a. picnic for Odd Fellows and Rebekahs. Plans will also be made for a harvest festival to be held this fall. The noble grand asked that each member be in attendance at this meeting. There will be a door prize, after which there will be a short Interesting program. Any Rebekahs visiting in Medford are always welcome. Bay City Visitors At Degerness Home Visiting at the W. C. Deger ness home on Fuel id avenue are Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Degerness, and Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Keemen and their two daughters, all of Oakland. Also visiting there is Allen Rogers of San Francisco. While here the group enjoyed trips to Crater lake and Klam ath Falls and spent some time at the Degerness cabin at Union Creek. They plan to leave to morrow for home. Mrs. Gault Honored By Children at Party Surprising their mother. Mrs. Henry Gault, with a birthday party Wednesday afternoon were her three children, Yvonne, Alice and Allen. The birthday cake, complete with candles and a fancy frosting, was baked by 10-year-old Yvonne, who also made all the arrangements for the party. The guests were served In the Gault's back yard under the trees by the 8-year-old twins, Alice and Allen. The three sang 'Happy Birthday To Mother" and then presented her with the birthday gifts. New York Visitor At Spalding Home Here from New York City to visit at the Jack Spalding home Is Mrs. Raymond Eisenhardt. She came west to be with her son who has Just undergone an operation for appendicitis. She plans to spend some time visit ing here. Her son had been spending the summer with the Spaldings. Budrows Return to Home In South Leaving Wednesday for the south were Mr. and Mrs. Frede rick N. Budrow of Hollywood, who were guests for a fortnight of Mrs. Budrow's sister, Mrs. Kenneth Beebe and family of Central Point. Pro-America to Meet Monday Noon The regular August luncheon meeting of Pro-America will be held Monday at 12 o'clock at the Hotel Holland. The guest speaker will be Frank Van Dyke, Ashland at torney, who will speak of the recent meeting of the Republi can state central committee in Portland, and also of the plans for the coming campaign. In addition the special train, as made up here, will have three coaches. The train will depart at 12:01 p. m. Sunday. At Grants Pass the Grants Pass unit of the Oregon national guard and a California national guard company from Eureka will entrain. Additional units will be picked up at Roseburg, Eugene and Albany. After the Albany stop the train will com prise 21 cars conveying S82 men, Capt. Tengwald said. Use New Rifles Like other units of the 186th regiment. Company A will use the new semi-automatic Garand rifle in maneuvers for the first time this year. All the Medford guardsmen are in good condition and ready for whatever lies ahead of them three weeks of strenuous man euvers or a year or more of active duty, Capt. Tengwald and Lieut. Grigsby declared. Salem, Aug. 2. (JPt Four thousand Oregon national guard troops will leave Sunday in five trains and four motor convoys for three weeks of maneuvers at Fort Lewis. Wash., and they don't know when they will re turn.
