July 20. wP A chase by 150 citizens. In which more than 20 shots were fired, ended with the wounding and capture of one of two es caped convicts in a church a few hours after they had rob bed the DiUer, Neb., State bank of $5,000. The wounded bandit's com panion escaped. He kidnaped two persons and commandeer ed two automobiles in his panic stricken flight. The captured man, Lowell Haenze, 27, of Sleepy Eye, Minn., told Tom Blodgett, city marshal, that he escaped with two companions from the Fort Madison, Iowa, penitentiary June 22. His fellow fugitives are Ivan Sullivan, 29, Trenton, Mo., and Forrest Estes, 35, Mountain Home, Ark. Haenze refused to name his companion who escaped. Leo Schramm, assistant city mar shal, said he admitted, however, that he participated in the DiUer bank robbery. He had $1,800 in his pockets. A suit case abandoned by the bandits was said by Blodgett to contain a "large amount of currency" believed to have been taken in the DiUer holdup. The two robbers were sur prised by Blodgett and Howard Heleker, deputy sheriff, at bus depot. BLISTERING HEATS SWEEP MID-WEST Chicago, Jujy 20. WALL ST. SLOWED New York. July 20.- The stock market muddled through another lackadaisical session today and finished the week with an Irregularly lower trend. Price changes, however, were inconsequential for the most, part and were rendered more or less .meaningless by the fact that the turnover was th smallest for any Saturday In more than two years. Brokers again attributed apathy mainly to the desire of speculative forces to keep fair- ly well in the clear pending further European war develop ments, particularly a possible attempt of Hitler to make good his latest threat to destroy Eng land if the British refuse to make peace. The business outlook remain ed as a moderate market prop. although there was talk here and there of nearby let-down as a prelude to the broadening of defense spending. Foreign af fairs, on the whole, tended to obscure the political scene at home, with Wall street Inclined to withhold definite opinions on the presidential race until the campaign gets farther along.
