Set against the thrilling background of the teeming jungle, with its ever present unseen and seen dan gers, "Safari" nas been classed as the "jungle thriller of 1940.' . The March of Time subject, of special timeliness now that the eyes of the world are focus- ted on Uncle Sam's huge na tional defense program, brings to the screen a story of a vital , ly important part of this pro gram. Sinclair Lewis' i Bay Milland, Patricia Morrison gripping novel of the Canadian I and Akemi Tamiroff handling North Woods, filmed entirely the featured roles, comes to the in glowing Technicolor, with Craterian theater Wednesday for a four-day showing. Wil liam Frawley, Jane Darwell and J. Farrell MaeDonald have the chief supporting roles. The screen's two most popu lar lovers (in pictures and in real life Vivien Leigh of "Scarlett O'Hara" fame and Laurence Olivier of "Rebecca" are co-starred in one of the year's most vital dramas, "21 Days Together," whicb comes to the New Riallo theater for Tuesday and Wednesday as the companion feature with "Sport ing Blood," co-starring Robert 1 Young and Maureen O'Sullivan. Both Miss Leigh and Olivier have been called to England to ! serve the colors possibly "21 Days Together" will be their last starring roles until the end of the war. and elaborate defenses of the Panama Canal, and how the Coast Guard and Marine Corps are geared to cooperate witn the navy in time of national emergency. Much of the ac tion was filmed by special cam era crews assined to the U.S.S. California during recent maneu vers in the Pacific. Filmed by a Uni versal camera crew, this sub ject is being given national re lease and will undoubtedly bring many visitors to this state. Soldiers Injured Grants Pass, July 13. UP) Two regular army soldiers re mained in the county hospital Saturday with severe injuries as result of cap-sizing of an army truck 20 miles north of here Friday night. Andy Hardy Back 1 Waterville. Minn., July 13. (JP) Three game wardens and a fish buyer lay dead in this little southern Minnesota town today, victims of a triple slay ing and a suicide which stem med, officers believed, from il legal sale of bullheads. The wardens were shot to death yesterday as they ques tioned Bryant Baimgartner, about 60, as to whether he had a license to buy and ship bull heads to Iowa. Immediately af ter the triple-slaying Baum gartner turned his 12-gauge shotgun on himself. The victims, besides Baum- gartner, . were D. M. Brady. Windom, A. M. The Pepper kids find thrilling excitement and adventure among tha big trees and the loggers, and with the animals of the forest. Their major difficulty, however, is with their uncle, a surly, abrupt backwoodsman who is antagon ized with their presence. How the antics of the Pep pers finally change the man makes this picture a delightful adventure for young and old alike. Climactic scenes of the film find the Peppers drifting helplessly downstream on a raft loose in a log-jammed torrent. '"Lucky Cisco Kid," newest of the popular O. Henry stories, based on the escapades of his famous romantic rogue, the Cis co Kid, plays as the companion feature with the Peppers com edy. Cesar Romero has the title role again and is said .to hit a new peak for his dash ing, daring portrayal of the best-loved western character ever to reach the screen. Chris Pin Martin and Mary Beth Hughes play opposite Romero.
