I., the house guest of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Carpenter, waa honor guest at a dinner party last evening at the Old Stage road home of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred S. V. Carpenter when their daughter, Miss Julie Car penter was hostess. Guests included the Misses Brown, Helene and Jeanne Sal ad, Debora Tumy, Jean Schuler, Alicia Ruhl, Patricia Thompson and Catherine Conroy. Messrs. Bill Salade, Jim Henry,, Ardo Stocks, Roger Hen selman, Dick Keum, Kenneth Patton, Martin Luther, Jr., Tom Hawkins, a house guest of the Luthers from Hollister, Cal., and Spencer Weills. ' Swimming and other forms of recreation were enjoyed throughout the evening. Popular Visitors Honored Friday at Dinner Party Mrs. W. E. Holmes entertained Friday evening at her country home on the Griffin Creek road with dinner party in honor of two former well-known Med ford teachers, the Misses Carin Degermark and Maurine Carroll. Guests at the pleasant affair were Mesdames George B. Ca node. Frances Cochran, Fletcher T. Fish, Cora Garman, Mrs. Fish's mother from Portland; R. O. Fowler, R. H. Holmes, R. R. Johnson, T. W. Miles, J. D. Mc Pherson, Victor Sether, R. W. Webster, John P. Moffat, J. F. Fllegel and Leland Mcntzer. The Misses Helen Parish, Katherine Stewart and Augusta Parker of Klamath Falls. Miss Degermark and Miss Car roll are the house guests of Mrs. W. J. Warner at her home on South Oakdale avenue. They expect to leave tomorrow for tha north where the former will visit relatives in Portland and tha latter will summer In Eu gene. Miss Carroll is director of residence and Miss Degermark health coordinator at Cottey junior college for girls In Ne vada, Mo. They drove west, en joying a leisurely trip and visit Ing many places of interest en route. They will resume their respective positions at the col lege in the fall. B. P. W. Club to Meet Thursday The Business and Professional Women's club will hold its recu lar monthly meeting Thursday evening at the Girls Comma Bity club at 8 o'clock. lrcan Grigsby, chairman of the music committee, will be in charge. They are being entertained at a va riety of activities; many are en Joying trips to the numerous scenic attractions; others are so journing at summer homes on lakes while still others are being feted at social affairs in town. While tha influx of visitors has been great, many localities are taking advantage of summer vacations and leaving tha valley for other places. Among those visiting visiting here and else where are: Miss Augusta Parker of Klam ath Falls is spending several weeks at the home of her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Holmes on the Griffin Creek road. Johnnie Fleet Smith, petite Medford high school teacher. Is summering at tha home of her father, Dr. Fleet In New Frank I in. Mo. She plans to return In tha fall to resume her school position. Mrs. Earl Herendeen la spend Ing several days in Cottage Grove visiting her husband's relatives. Frederick Colvig, member of the editorial staff of tha Ore- gontan In Portland is due here today to visit his aunt, Mrs, Myrtle Blakeley In Cargill court and his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Colvig. He plans to continue on south soon from here and return later for a more extended visit. Mrs. Merrick Evans and small daughter, Lee, plan to conclude a fortnight's visit here soon. They have been guests of Mr. and Mrs. Cordy Sunderman at their home on Palm street. The Evans reside In Alameda, Calif. A colorful visitor Is W. W. Chadwlck, mayor of Salem, who, with Mrs. Chadwlck and their daughter. Margaret, are guests of Mr. and Mrs. Cedrick T. Rea ney at their home on Tripp street. The mayor's many Med ford friends hardly knew him when he whipped into town yes terday wearing a mustachio, a ten-gallon hat and a yellow satin shirt the gct-up is a good ad vertisement for the Salem Cen tennial to be held In the north ern city from July 31 to Au gust 4. Mrs. Reaney is a daugh ter of tha Chadwlcks. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Schoenl were brief callers here at the home of Mr. Schoenl's aunt, Mrs. A. E. Lyman on Ross court. Mr. Schoenl, former local resident, Is bureau manager of United Press in Olympia, Wash. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Garrett are here for several days to visit Mr. Garrett's mother, Mrs. G. C. Garrett and his brother. Jack Garrett. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. McCann and son, John, of Los Angeles are guests of Mrs. MrCann's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Beare on Howard avenue. Mrs. Robert Hart and two small daughters. Ann and Sara, of Klamath Falls were visitors at Lake o' the Woods. Mr. and Mrs. II. S. Radabaugh of this city were recent visitors at Tlmbcrllne lodge on the slopes of Mount Hood. Mrs. Conro Flero, hostess at the Klamath agency, is week ending with her mother, Mrs. Will Andrews and her sister. Mrs. James Stevens, at their Cargill court apartment. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Strang and suns, Bobby Jr. and David, are due to arrive today to visit Mr. Strang's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Strang, at their home on Medford heights. For mer residents, the family now calls Reno, Nevada, home. They will be here a week. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Robertson and small son. Stewart, of Eu gene, are visiting Mrs. Robert son's parents. Mr. and Mrs. Wil liam Hammett, at their home on East Main street until Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Schack and two sons left yesterdav for their Seattle, Wash., home. They visited here two weeks and at tended the wedding of Mrs I Schack's sister, Mrs. P. C. Wilder, the former Miss Georgia Edwards. I Mr. and Mrs. Bill Walker of ! Flrawley. She l the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. D Frase of this city. La Murle Beck WillFeature Festival Dances Whether William Shakespeare likes it or not, one of his plays now contains a modern dance revue. In line with the new version of "Much Ado About Nothing.' to be given in Ashlund's civic Elizabethan theater on both Au gust 10 and August IS, a series of specialty and solo dances have been woven into the plot and are under the direction of Miss La Murle Beck. Audiences will find a gay, breezy tempo han dled by a chorus of 10 girls, while specialty dances will be given by Le Roy Lindner and Miss Beck herself. A prominent figure in music and dramatic circles, Miss Beck Is conducting her second year with the Festival group. Her 1B39 characterizations. Audrey, in "As You Like It" and Adrians in "The Comedy of Errors" won wide-spread acclaim and she is recorded as the discovery of Inst season's productions. This year she is repeating both roles and is expected to outdo herself In their interpretations. She is a graduate of Mills Col lege Where she specialized in drama, music and fine arts. She was a member of Gilbert and Sullivan's road troup in 1D35 and 1938 and is highly regarded in dramatic circles throughout the entire coast. Her dramatic experience was started in high school produc tion here and has been furthered through a number of commu nity plays. Michigan Two Visit Coddings George Codding, Medford at torney, and his sister, Mrs. Les ter Meyers of Kalamazoo, Mich., met for the first time in 20 years last week when Mrs. Meyers and her daughter, Miss Jeanne, arrived here to visit. The Coddings and their guests enjoyed a sojourn at Lake o the Woods, where they were guests at the summer home of Mrs. Kinney Holmes. The vis itors also viewed Crater lake fur the first time and later were guests at the Union Creek cabin of Mrs. R. J. Conroy. They plan to return to Michi-j gan soon. Rays s Hosts to House Guests Mr. and Mrs. Guy L. Ray and two young sons recently spent a fortnight visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Ray on the Oak Grove road. They left the latter part of the week for their home in Bur lingame. Calif. During their stay, the visitors were taken on several scenic trips in and about the valley including Diamond lake and Crater Lake National park. The Rays have visited here previously and each time express more delight in the valley. Pgr of Honor Picnic Soon Drree of Honor annual pic nic will be held at Mi-Kee bridge Sundav, July 21. Refreshing Invigorating DRINK Miss Fraxee Wed To Mr. Bergman In San Francisco Lois Dorothy Frazee, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. D. Frazee and George R. Bergman, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Bergman of Los Angeles, Cal., were united in marriage Tuesday evening July B at 9:30 o'clock in the par sonage of the Rev. H. G. Porter in St. Frances Wood, San Fran cisco, Cal. The bride, well known in Med ford, wore an afternoon dress of rose and navy blue with blue accessories and a corsage of white carnations. Guests attending the Impres sive ceremony from Medford were the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frazee, Mrs. R. K Rlans. Miss Virginia Rians, Miss Betty Paske and Miss Betty Ann inorndike. Mrs. Bergman is a graduate of Medford high school class of 193S. She later attended the Southern Oregon College of Education In Ashland and com pleted nurses' training at Stan ford University May last. Mr. Bergman graduated from Stan ford University class of 1937 and Is now a senior in the uni versity school of medicine. After a wedding trip along the coast, the couple will spend a week visiting Mr. Bergman's parents in Los Angeles. They will make their home at 2321 Sacramento street in San Fran cisco. Trulls Home From Wedding Trip East Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus S. Trull returned to their home at SIB East Main street last week from an extensive wedding trip dur ing which time they drove over six thousand miles. Mrs. Trull is the former Mrs. Allie E. Troutier. Their mar riage was an event of June 19 in Winnemucca, Nevada. The Rev. Charles Huddleston of ficiated. Attendants at the cere mony were Mrs. Ray Huddles ton and Mrs. Charles Prowl. Mr. and Mrs. Trull visited the bride's former home town in Michigan after the wedding. Mrs. Seilir Is Party' Honor ee Mrs. John Sailer was feted at a surprise birthday party Fri day evening at" her home on North Central avenue. The en joyable affair also observed her fortieth wedding anniversary. Guests included Mesdames John Hublcr, Herbert Sims, Leo Rcbhahn. D. G. Wilson, Kather ine Smith. Ora Manning, Vida Oatman, Paul Martin. The honoree received a num ber of lovely gifts and games and music were enjoyed during the evening. Flowers decorated the rooms. Harding Guests Enjoy Lake Trip An Interesting visitor In Med ford last week was Miss Dor othy Allen of Washington, D. C, who for the past three years has been secretary to Senator Carter Glass. Traveling with Miss Allen was Miss Pauline Saunders of Port land. The two were guests here of Mr. and Mrs. B. G. Harding. They enjoyed a trip to Crater Lake National park during their stay. Accompanying them to the lake were Mrs. Harding and Miss Amy Harding. Bay Area Group At Rogue Roost Arriving yesterday morning lo Join a house party at the summer home of Mr. and Mrs. Nion Tucker on the Rogue river were Messrs. Michael Tobin. Barnaby Conrad. Michael Mac Cauley and Rene McCreery. The group traveled here from San Francisco. Also vacationing at Rogue's Roost are the Tuck er's daughter and son. Miss Nan Tucker and Nion Tucker, Jr. Carnation Club Will Mt Soon Carnation club will meet at the home of Mrs. Marie Sipes on Midway road at 8 o'clock Thursday evening. Hagertys Hosts To Guests Here Mr. and Mrs. Glen Parker of Aberdeen, S. D., were dinner guests last week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hagerty on Cottage street. Mrs. Parker is a niece of Mr. Hagerty. She was Miss Harriett Hagerty prior to her marriage of a short time ago. The couple are now enjoying an extensive wedding trip, traveling by car and visiting all of the principal points of interest on the coast. Including the Golden Gate In ternational exposition on Treas ure Island. They also expect to visit in Hollywood, attending bowl entertainments. They will conclude their honeymoon at Clinton, Nevada, where Mr. Parker has accepted the posi tion as English instructor in the schools. They will make their home in this city. St. Louis Folks Enjoy Visit Here Mr. and Mrs. Arthur M. Sha- don of St. Louis, Mo., were re cent guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Custard and daughter Doris on Mistletoe ave nue. Mrs. Shadon and Mrs. Cus tard are sisters. This marked the couple's first trip west of the Rockies and dur ing their stay they enjoyed a number of interesting trips. From here they planned to mo tor down the Redwood highway to San Francisco, Cal., later re turning to St. Louis via the southern route. Mr. Shadon is a member of the advertising staff of the St. Louis Globe-Democrat. Ashland Park Scene of Picnic Mrs. Elsie Rawstern and Mrs. Gladys Gilman entertained the Mistletoe club. Group Arrives From Portland Arriving in Medford yesterday morning from the north were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Poole of Portland. Mrs. Henry Albers of Salem and Mrs. Augusta Moore and grandson, Norman Love, of Medford. who had been visiting at the Poole and Albers home. They are visitors here at the home of Mrs. Moore's daughter. Mrs. Babe Lewis, on Fourth street. Mrs. Albers is Mrs. Lewis' aunt and young Norman is her son. On Tuesday evening there will be a Joint in stallation of Rebekah Lodge and I. O. O. F. lodge No. 83. Viola Aldredge, district dep uty president, with the installing team from Central Point, will in stall the officers of Rebekah and William Musty, deputy grand master, will install officers of Odd Fellows. He will also bring the installing team from Central Point. At the close of the business session, refreshments will be served by a committee composed of Rebekahs and Odd Fellows from the local order. All Rebekahs and their hus bands and Odd Fellows and their wives and invited guests are invited to attend. Adarel to Hav Picnic Dinner Adarel Chapter No. 3. The affair will be the evening of July 25 at Jackson Hot Springs and husbands and invited guests will be included. Mrs. A. J. Loeffler will be chair man of the picnic and serving with her will be Mrs. Irving Housechild, Mrs. Clyde Moffitt, Mrs. H. L. Houtz. Mrs. Jack Evans and Mrs. C. H. Post. A tea for memoers and guests Is being planned by the group for August. Plans will be made by a committee headed by Mrs. C. S. Raymond. Other members will be Mrs. I. E. Staples, Mrs. Maurice Harris, Mrs. Ralph Fur rer, Mrs. Don K. Bagley and Mrs. Bren H. Starcher. A committee headed by Mrs. Kenneth Fitzgerald and includ ing Mrs. Calvin Francis and Mrs. Jack Davis will review the by laws of the organization and recommend changes. The busi ness session was presided over by Mrs. Douglass Welch, newly elected president. Preceding the business session dessert was served from small tables centered with bouquets of summer flowers. Bridge was played during the afternoon with prizes going to Mrs. Welch, Mrs. Arthur Herring, Mrs. James L. Murphy and Mrs. E. L. Faler of Spokane, Washington. Door prize went to Mrs. John Pond.
