Townsend, secretary-treasurer of the Townsend national recovery plan, who U in the west on a speaking tour, Robart C. Townsend. will appear here July 26, ac cording to word received by local Townsend leaders. Mr. Townsend, recognized as an outstanding speaker and as In close touch with national affairs, is expected to draw a large crowd. The local Town send committee In chargo of the rally has secured the high school auditorium for the pur pose. A loud speaker will be Installed in the gymnasium to accommodate any overflow at tendance from the auditorium. The doors will open at 7 p. m. and the Rev. D. E. Millard will be present with an orches tra to furnish music until the meeting begins. Townsend club presidents will act as an escort of honor and will occupy the platform. Mem bers of the Mcdford Townsend Youth club will have charge of arrangements at the auditorium and will act as ushers. The public Is Invited and there will be no admission charge. 10 SUPREME COURT IN LIBERTY EFFORT Earl H. Fehl, former Jackson county Judge, now an inmate of the Oregon State hospital at Salem, has filed notice of appeal to the state supreme court from an order of the circuit court signed May 23, denying Fehl's appeal from the Jackson county court to the Jackson county cir cuit court. Fehl's insanity hearing In De cember, 1937, was certified from the county court to the circuit court by County Judge Earl B Day, and testimony in the In sanity hearing was heard by Cir cuit Judge H. D. Norton. Fehl was ordered committed to the state hospital. Through his at torney, R. R. Hewitt of Salem, Fehl now contends his case was never heard in the circuit court. Circuit Judge Carl Hendricks of Fossil, heard the arguments on this contention, and in a de cision May 23, last, denied the appeal. Fehl recently sought a writ of habeas corpus for his release from the state hospital. Hearing on the writ was held in a Mult nomah county court, and denied.
