Saturday night he handled six putouts and most of them came after long runs . . . Sun day he came up with three more, plus one assist on a great throw to the plate to nip Jim Rego trying to score from sec ond on a single . . . that's 10 perfectly-handled chances In two games, a fine record for n outfielder ... In addition, he stole a base Sunday . . . although he got only one hit In nine trips in the two games, he looked good at the plate . . . but principally, he really covers that outfield like a blanket. For some reason, the Craters looked rather dead out there; they didn't show the fire that brought them from behind twice to beat the Portland Babes the Sunday previous in a double header . . . they hustled, all right, but the old winning flame Just wasn't there, or if it was It didn't get kindled . . . which isn't meant to belittle the Red Sox, who deserved to win and have a fine ball club ... It Just didn't look like the Craters of the week before, that's all. Two all-star Softball teams- one composed of Catholic play ers and managed by R. L. Lew is, and the other lined up by Clarence English, manager of the league-leading Medco outfit will clash in tonight's four- ply program at the stadium. The game will start at 9 o'clock. Manager Lewis said today he was not certain who would do the hurling for the Catholic all stars, but that It would be Bob Smith, Ray Singler or Father Meyer. Manager English plans to send his star Medco hurler Morrle Steiner, to the mound. Ghosts Coming Thursday night the famous Colored Ghosts, barnstorming Negro team, will be here to play Medco. There will be only two games played Thursday, the other to be between an all star girls team of Medford and a feminine club from Grants Pass. Both tilts will be played on the center diamond, the girls going on first at 8 o'clock. It was announced by E. H. Hedrlck that the Copco-Team-sters National league game of July 2, won by Teamsters, 10 to S, had betn forfeited to Cop co on the protest of Manager H. C. Kellom of the latter team. The protest was allowed on the grounds that Teamsters used two Ineligible players Pitcher Russ Bean and Infielder Tom my Keevan. G. PASS TRIMS Manager Tommy Hawkins said last night that Steve Crip pen, curve balling righthander, would be on the firing line to night when the Medford Cra ters go against the Tillamook Cheesemakers at Portland's Vaughn street park, home of the Pacific Coast league Beav ers, in the locals' first game in the Oregon State semi-pro tour nament. The clash Is elated to start at 9:30, following the Mt. Angel-Mantle Club tilt. Nine of the Craters, with Business Manager Glen Fab- rick, left Medford at 7 o'clock this morning. Shortstop Alex McDonald and Klghtfielder Al an Wray are already in the Rose City, having driven up Sunday night. The team will remain In Portland for its sec ond tournament game Friday night. a With Rinev Cook unable to make the trip because of his baseball school and scftball du ties here.
