Big Applegate, Juna 13 (Spl.) Another week will mark rompletton of 88,000 voltage transmission line extending from Medford to Grant! Pass through the Applegate valley, it was stated by John Boyle of Medford, vice president of the California Oregon Power com pany. The line extends to Ruch from Jacksonville, and continues to Grants Pass on the north side of the Applegate river, a total distance of 40 miles, including distribution lines, with approxi mate cost of $130,000. The company has taken over the old power line, which has served the community for ten years, and has refunded subscribers their equity in this line, Mr. Boyle ex plained. Greater electrical capacity and better service will be avail able for the Applegate area in that these lines will supply two sources of power. Construc tion of the new line began early In the spring, and has been in charge of C. C. Archibald of Medford, construction superin tendent. Between 73 and 80 men, principally local workers, have been employed. Mr. Boyle expressed the be lief that eventually a distribu tion line would be extended to the upper Applegate district, connecting with the present line ending at the Frank Preston ranch. He also expressed ap preciation of the company In re gard to the fine cooperation of the Applegate people in grant ing the right of way for the new line. Jensen, 17, of 418 South Park street and Dorothy Hofbeck, 18, of route 1, sus tained broken noses in an auto mobile accident Friday night at the intersection of Fourth street and the Pacific highway, a re port on file said yesterday. The report stated, that the car driven by Jensen, making left-hand turn irrto the Pa cific highway, collided with an automobile operated by Julius C. Stassens of Portland, moving north on the highway. Cars driven by Dave Gould of 223 West Jackson boulevard and Emll Berg of Medford were Involved in a mishap on South Riverside avenue between Eighth and Ninth streets Fri day night, a report on file said yesterday. Albert Martin Olson a resi dent of southern Oregon for thei past 18 years, making his home with F. L. TouVclle at Jack sonville, passed away at Central Point, Oregon Saturday after noon at 1:30, after an Illness of the past three months. He was born at Rawson. North Dakota on Jan., 11, 1916, being aged 24 years. He graduated from the Jack sonville high school, and spent one year at the Ashland Normal School. For the past five years he had been employed as chief mechanic for Berke Brothers. Inc., at Portland. Ore. He was a fine young man. and ! well liked by a.l who knew him. He leaves his mother. Mrs. Fred Lewis of Eagle Point. Star Route, one sister. Mrs. Nelson Florey of Central Point. Ore., and one brother, Ernest Olson of Jacksonville. Funeral services will be con ducted from the Perl funeral home on Tuesdav morning at 10 30. with Rev., E. N. Mallery of Jacksonville officiating. In terment will take place in the Siskiyou Memorial l'ark. TAKEN BY DEATH Harry J. Hinderer passed away at his home on the Old Stage road Friday afternoon at the age of 58. He had made his home here for the past 15 years, coming from Ohio. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Effle F. Hinderer and three children, al' at home. Private funeral services will be held in the Conger funeral oarlors Monday with Father F. W. Black officiating. Interment will be in Siskiyou Memorial 411 TRUCK AND AUTO v E Four persons were taken to Sacred Heart hospital early Saturday morning following an auto-truck accident at the north end of the Tolo overhead bridge on the Pacific highway north of Medford. None was seriously injured, although both vehicles were severely damaged. Those hurt were Albert Chapman, 50, of Vancouver, B. C, who sustained several broken ribs, superficial face cuts, bruises and shock; his wife, Gladys, 47, who suffered bruises and cuts; their daugh ter, Mrs. Dorothy Thackeray, 27, of Long Beach, Cal., who was shocked and bruised, and a friend, Harold P. Eldridge. 60, of Vancouver, B. C, who received a broken leg Just be low the right knee-cap, bruises, face cuts and shock. It was a head-on collision be tween the car operated by Chapman and an International truck and trailer driven by Jack S. Witt of Salem, accord ing to investigating state po licemen. The truck, traveling south, and the northbound Chapman machine, a Pontiac sedan, crashed into each other just at the north end of the bridge, police said. Witt escaped injury. Chapman and Eldridge were riding in the front seat of the car, with the two women in back. Following the accident the Perl ambulance was sum moned and the injured persons removed to the hospital. State police said there was a possibility that charges would be filed against ' the truck driver. Witt and occupants of the Chapman car told conflict ing stories, police explained, with the former stating the Chapman car was on the wrong side of the road and the Chap man party insisting it was the truck which was on the wrong side of the highway.
