Society Clubs Clara Mary Davis Miss Phillips, Bride-Elect, Is Party Honor ee Miss Betty Southwlck enter tained with miscellaneous shower at her home on West Tenth street last evening In honor of Miss Jean Phillips, whose marriage to Bob Gall will take place Sunday, June IS. Guests Included the Mines Muriel Stocks, Constance Moore, Dorothea Borg, Nancy Durham, Jean Goldsmith, Made line Metzger, Betty Purdin. Doris Southwick and Mrs. John Root. A decorative motif was car ried out In pink and white sweetpeas, dark la and tapers, and a highlight of the evening's entertainment was a visit by the guests to the new and at tractive home on Bennett street where the couple will reside after their marriage. Refreshments were served during the evening and many lovely gifts were presented to the honoree. Miss Phillips is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Phillips, and Mr. Gail Is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Gail. The be trothed couple are both gradu ates of Medford high school and well known here. 2OZ0 Wives To Be Entertained Here During Convention Mrs. Harold Wall Is chair man of the committee which will entertain wives of 20-30 members who will attend the northwest district convention to be held here over the week end. Visitors will be honored at a luncheon at 12 o'clock Sunday at the Hotel Jackson. Mrs. Franklin George is In charge of the program and Mrs. Eu gene Monoco will preside. The women will also attend the dinner dance at the Cha teau Saturday evening at 8:30 o'clock. The affair Is Informal. Mrs. Wall Is being assisted In plans by Mrs. Jack Hartley. Members from Oregon towns and cities and from the Seattle club with their wives will at tend the week-end affair. Local Divoteers Defeat Visitors In Point Tourney . Women members of the Grants Pass golf club were en tertained yesterday by divoteers of the Rogue Valley club at a luncheon and tourney affair. The home players defeated the visitors 33' to 8'4 In a point fracas and the following women won individually: low net of 72 by Janet Ross of Grants Pass who also was winner of the putting and approaching contest; Mrs. George Codding and Mrs. A. Orin Schenck tied with the former winning in the toss up. Guests from the Cave town links present were Nell Hamil ton, Janet Ross, Florence Dur- land, Minnie Harvard, Mildred Bowe, Lollta Noyes, Pinky Heath,, Maude Putman, Anna Clark, Lillian Jester, Marian Campbell, Ina Walke, Monesta Balderee, Dorothy Teti, Chris tina Gall and Beatrice Gerlln-ger. Medfordltes present were Mesdames Schenck. Codding, F G. Bunch, Jerry Jerome, Larry Schade. Kieth Kittle, Emil Mohr, Laddie Selkirk, Fred W Greene, Gertrude Armstrong, T. J. Fuson, A. E. Orr, R. J. Conroy, H. B. Kellom, R. R. Ebel and the Misses Helen Thompson, and Margo Boyle. The visitors invited yester day's hostesses to journey to Grants Pass next Wednesday, June 19 to participate in a day of golfing activities. Those plan ning to attend are asked to phone Miss Thompson at 1701-Y for reservations. Jean McPherson to Enter Nurse School Mrs. J. D. McPherson and daughter Miss Jean, left today by motorcar for Portland where the latter will enter nurses training at Multnomah hospital and Mrs. McPherson will visit for three or four days. Miss McPherson completed her second year of pre-nursing at the University of Oregon In Eugene last week. She will en ter training on June 17. The popular Medford girl Is a grad uate of the Medford high scohol. Fred Height to Present Mjslcal Fred Haight will present a musical at the Knights of Pyth ias hall on Grape street next Monday evening at 8 o'clock. There is no admission charge and refreshments will be served during the evening. Mrs. Hurd Home From California Mrs. E. H. Hurd returned to her home on West Tenth street recently from southern Califor nia where she visited four of her five children. During her stay a family re union was held In Mrs. Hurd's honor at the home of her son Joubert Hurd In Beverly Hills. The only member of the fam ily absent at the reunion was Mrs. Hurd's daughter, Mrs. Charles Manning, who resides near Prospect. Among those present were Robert Hurd, Whittier, Cal.; Mrs. J. P. Me darls, Anaheim and Anna Hurd. who has been studying this win ter and spring in the graduate school of social work at the University of Southern Califor nia. On the trip, Mrs. Hurd also visited with her three grandchllren, Robert Hurd Jr., Martha Ann and Barbara, daughters of Joubert Hurd. Miss Anna Hurd returned to Med ford with her mother to remain during the summer months. What the Girl Scouts Are Doing Jacksonville Girl Scout troop No. 13 recently held troop court of awards in the Jacksonville school. Miss Barbara Holt, leader of the troop, presented the following awards: Joyce Niedrrmeyer, My Community and World Knowledge; the fol lowing Word Knowledge awards: Miss Charlotte Nleder meyer. Arlene Smets, coking: Dorothy Jean Farley, Betty Lockheart, Joyce Henspeter, Juanita Guenter, Joyce Metzger, World Knowledge, My Troop. My Community, Block Printing. Foot Traveler and Cyclist, Mar garet White. World Knowledge. Foot Traveler, Hostess. Junior Citizen, My Country and My Troop. The entire troop worked for several months on the world knowledge badge. One of the requirements is corresponding with a scout friend In a foreign country. The girls learned sev eral songs in the French lang uage. Johnson will be interested to know that she has returned to her cabin home on Poorman's creek after spending eight months in the south where she won recognition as a poet and composer. Mi.s Johnson (Mrs. James E. Johnon) has to her credit eight books of poems and some hun dred songs. All were Inspired In her cabin home ten miles from Medford diirmg her eight years of Illness. One of her books of poems Is entitled "Ore gon's Mountain Grandeur." She plans to spend three months in southern Oregon, returning to Oakland, Cal., in September. Lodge to Meet Friday Evening Pocahontas lodge will meet for a short buinrs session in the Itedman hall Friday even ing at 8. The two women live in Pitts burg, Penn., and this will mark their first visit to the Rogue River valley. During their stay they will enjoy a trip to Crater Lake national park and other scenic places of Interest In southern Oregon. Miss Lenhult and Mrs. Echt ner are cousins of the local woman. Mrs. Samuels and Mrs. Faler are sisters. She arrived this week and plans to visit until July 20. The district meeting will begin Sat urday at S p. m. with the Mad ford. Pilgrim Holiness church, corner East Jackson and Bessie streets, continuing nightly through next week. Rev. C.
