Chimney Fire The fire de partment's chemical crew stood by this morning while a chim ney fire at the home of Robert x R. Ebel, 620 South Oakdale avenue, burned itself out. No damage was done. They will confer with forest service officials in that area re garding conservation plans. - Roof Fire Fire burned a hole in the roof of the Donald A. Greaves home at 34 Quince street yesterday forenoon. The roof. Have Baby It was learned here today that Mr. and Mrs. Harold Savage, Jr., of Los An sj geles, are the parents of a boy born May 29, weighing nine and three-quarters pounds. The couple's marriage was an event In St. Mark's Episcopal church here several years ago. Mrs. Savage will be remembered as th former Miss Jennie DoUell. ister of Mrs. Don R. Newbury of Medford. The baby has been named Harold Delzell Savage. Visiting the couple now is Mrs. Savage's mother, Mrs. W. A. Delzell of Portland. Petersons Home Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Peterson returned to their home n.t 540 Palm street last evening by motorcar from San Francisco where they spent a fortnight visiting. Bierma of San Diego, Ca!.. said that he had the thrill of a lifetime last week when he had his first air plane ride from the Medford airport. Fly Ti Salem Robert Forbes president of the Crater Flying club, and Richard Witt, vice president of the Medford Flying club, went to Salem and back yesterday by plane. Mr. Witt piloted a Piper Cub trainer for delivery to Art Whitakrr and Mr. Forbes followed him to Sa lem in the Crater club Cub coupe. They returned together In the latter plane after deliver ing the other plane. Mr. Forbes was accompanied to Salem by Miss Winifred Law. who went on from Salem to Portland. Last month 8 total was be low the $19,885 In the same period last year and a decrease from the $18,345 figure in April of 1940. EXPECTS LEAVE Termination of George E. Patterson's tour of duty as s re cruiter of the U. S. navy was seen today in orders sending Jack M. Carpenter, a chief elec trician's mate now at San Diego, Cal., to a recruiters' training school for a six weeks' course. Mr. Patterson, a chief quar termaster, has been in charge of the Medford recruiting station for Vh years. He will have completed tnree years of re cruiting duty in the Portland district next September. Mr. Patterson has received no orders regarding his own transfer but receipt here of a copy of the orders for Carpen ter was interpreted to mean that Patterson's service as a re cruiter was nearing its comple tion. It was understood that Carpenter would be added to the staff of the officer in charge of the Portland recruit ing district, of which the Med ford area is a part. S. air corps, who was seri ously In lured In an auto acci dent it Voorhles crossing Friday night, was flown to Letterrr.an hospital at San Francisco yester day morning in a Douglas bomb er piloted by Lieut. W. C. Arnold. Corp. Maclary had spent Friday and Saturday nights in Sacred Heart hospital here. The bomber, with the pilot and crew of five, arrived in Medford Saturday night from March field in southern Califor nia. Corp. Maclary. who suf fered a fractured pelvis and bro ken right thigh and left fore arm, was transferred from the local hospital to the airplane, where his stretcher was strap ped securely to the ship. The plane took off at 8 a. m. for San Francisco. The air corps officet was in jured when he was crushed be tween two U. S. army trucks, parked on the Pacific highway just south of Medford. One truck had stalled because of motor trouble and Corp. Ma clary was attempting to attach a tow rope from one vehicle to the stalled truck. A car driven by Clifford M White. 18, of Ashland, traveling north, struck the rear truck, ramming it into the back end of the other vehicle and crushing the soldier between the two. Corp. Maclary was traveling with a convoy of eight army trucks being transferred from March field to McChord field near Tacoma, Wash.
