Peyton of 248 South Ivy street yesterday observed their 49th wedding anniversary by calling upon old friends. One of the old friends they called upon wa the Mail Tribune which, with ita predecessor, they have been reading ever since the day they wera married, May 16. 1891. The Peytons were married ini Meteorological Report the house that still stands at Eleventh and Front streets. Mr. Peyton came from Wellington, Kas., In 1887 and Mrs. Peyton came from Bloomington, 111., May 14, 1891. The couple had met in Bloomington and a ro mance had budded that endured through four years of separa tion and culminated in their marriage when the 21-year-old girl came all the way to Bed ford to wed her betrothed. Mr. Peyton took a homestead about IS miles above Trail and there he and his wife operated a postoffice. It was known as "Peyton's postoffice." She wrote the "Flounce Rock Frills." The homestead was sold In 192S and the couple came to Medford to reside. Mr. Peyton will be 84 years old on September 23 and Mrs. Peyton will be 70 on July 24. They are the parents of 10 children, eight of whom are living. They have 34 living grandchildren and six great- children. At the fourth annual national catfish derby last Sun day Mrs. Peyton won the prize awarded to the woman present having the largest number of grandchildren. Mr. Peyton won a prize for being the oldest Democrat born outside of Ore gon. Mr. Peyton has kept a diary since 1880 and is now writing a book based largely on his daily chronicles.
