PAGE SIX MEDFORD MAF; TRIBUN-E, MEDFORD. OREGON, FRIDAY. MAY 17, 1940. ARE NOW IDEAL FOR RECREATION Most Sylvon Camp Centers Ready for Use Fishing Is Excellent In Spots T h followinf recreational bulletin wai issued today by Rogue River national forest headquarters: "Ideal conditions for recrea Uonists are offered In the Rogue River national forest at this time. "Fishing conditions for the week-end are summarized as follows: At Fish lake the best catches are being taken by trolling with spinners and worms; still fishing is also good. In the south fork of Lit tle Butte fair catches are being made with Coachman flies. In Beaver Dam creek good catches of trout from eight to 10 inches long are being caught with worms. Big Trout Taken "At Lake of the Woods, two eastern brook trout weighing three pounds each were recent ly taken at the resort dock with worms but very few other catches have been reported. In the middle fork of Rogue river, cut-throat trout are rising to flying ants and greyhackle flies. In the Union Creek district the river is still too high but fair 8EE THE LOCAL SPEED DEMONS in action SUNDAY al Dalit's Speedway catches are being made in sev eral of its tributaries, particu larly In Buck, Foster, Hersh berger and Crater creeks. Worms are bringing the best results here, with eggs, black gnats and royal coachman flies second choice. "Elk creek offers good chances with flies. In the Apple gate district the streams are too high and muddy but Squaw Lake has been good for both eggs and worms. "Fishing is reported as excel lent in the Rogue river in the vicinity of Trail and Rogue Elk. Warm weather has aided in bringing forth a large hatch of flies and limit catches are being taken on flying caddis, red upright, and March brown. An occasional steelhead is also being caught. Sites Accessible "Most of the main recreation centers are now accessible and ready for use. An exception is at Lake of the Woods where it is still quite cool and damp for camping and where drink ing water has not yet been turn ed on for use In the camps. The roads to this point are in good condition except the Dead Indian road between Deadwood and the lake, which, because of new construction, is open to one-way traffic only and is very rounh. "Dead Indian Soda Springs is especially attractive now and the road from there over hod. inson Butte to Fish lake has been graded. The old Diamond lake highway may be traveled to the fishing streams In that vicinity; the Hershberger road la blocked with snow at Long Prairie, which is about two miles below the Rabbit Ears. The Blue Rock road Is still blocked with snow about a mile from the lookout. The Siskiyou Summit road is open for 12 miles up Beaver creek and 10 miles from Ashland. The Little Applegate road is closed by construction work above Bun coin but may be traveled from Talent up Anderson creek and over Anderson mountain to the Little Applegate campground. Trip By Trail "The trail up the middle fork of Rogue river to the falls at Boston Bluff has been main tained, offering a trip by trail six miles up stream from Imna ha In what is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful spots in Oregon. In this same vicinity, the South Fork, Upper South Fork and Nichols Creek camps are pleasant on bright day, there are few mosquitoes, and deer are being seen frequently. uoow"r ! 01 M HCV . to IT'S cook, ayjw A Product Weight of Tanks From Five Tons To Over Thirty By the Associated Press When military men speak of "heavy" tanks in fighting on the western front they mean Just that. After each batch of vege tables and fruits is put through the Stokeiy "fresh-tasting" process, the machinery is bathed with live steam. Every day, the floors and benches and tables get a vigor ous scrubbing. Everything tn the place has a spic and span "just scrubbed" look. We believe this is just one more good reason why it pays you to look for the Stokeiy label w henever you buy can ned foods.
