Council To Meet Jackson county Intermediate Teachers' council will meet in the court house .auditorium Saturday nt 11:15 a. m. Mrs. Precia Medley of the Jackson school will speak on "Library Activities in the Intermediate Grades." Has Operation Gus Johnson of 16 Laurel street, who under went an appendectomy in Sa cred Heart hospital December 5, is reported by friends to be recovering satisfactorily. Mr Johnson may now have friends call at the hospital during visit ing hours. Tire Stolen A 4.50 by 21 size tire and wheel were stolen off a car owned by Mrs. J. F Coghill of 513 Mae street Wednesday night, the owner reported to city police yester day; The car was parked in the driveway of the Coghill residence. Bishop Coming The Rt. Rev. Benjamin Dagwell, D.D., bishop of the diocese of Oregon, will have charge of services at St. Mark's Episcopal church Sun day. Ho will preach at 11 o'clock. Friends as well as members of St. Mark's are cordially invited to attend. Civil Service Tests U. S. civil service commission today announced open competitive ex aminations for the following positions: inspector ordnance material, $2300 a year; senior inspector, $2600 a year; asso ciate inspector, $2000 a year; assistant inspector, $1800 a year; and junior inspector, $1620 a year, ordnance depart ment, war department; pro'o- zoologist, $3800 a year; asso ciate protozoologist," $3200 a year; and assistant protozoolo gist, $2600 a year, bureau of animal industry, department of agriculture; technical assistant to the chief of probation and parole, $3800 a year, and as sistant supervisor of classifica tion $3800 a year, bureau of prisons, department of justice, Complete information regarding the positions and qualification? therefore, together with appli cation blanks, may be procured at Medford postoffice from Stanley G. November Record Setting an all-time high for any November in Its history, United Air Lines last month recorded a total of 12,100,300 revenue passenger miles of flying over its net work, according to figures re leased today through Max C. Henne, station manager hero. Henne said that the figure rep resented a gain of 35 per cent over the 8.943,359 revenue) pas senger miles flown in Novem ber, 1938, and a decrease of 23 Vi per cent as compared to the 15,809.840 revenue passen ger miles flown in October of this year. Barnum, mother of George Barnum, owner of Barnum s machine shop, re turned by Mainliner from San Francisco yesterday afternoon. About 80 years old, Mrs. Bar num made her first airplane trip a few weeks ago when she left here by Mainliner to visit relatives in San Francisco R. H. Chandler left on yester day afternoon's plane for Port land. Place Changed Oregon Real Estate board examinations to be held here next Monday will take place In the city hall instead of the armory as was previously scheduled. Examina tions will begin at 9:30 a. m The board consists of W. B Shively and W. H. Ross, Port land, Lowell Williamson, La Grande, and Carl Y. Tengwald, Medford. Claude H. Murphy, real estate commissioner, is chairman of the board and will assist in conducting the exami nations. In order to conform with the new real estate law, approximately 450 brokers and salesmen are required to 'sub mit to examination before ob taining 1940 licenses. Fire Warning Residents were warned again today by Chief Roy Elliott to keep a care ful watch on their stoves and heaters on windy days and nights. Especially wood-burning stoves and heaters should not be left with no one at home during windy weather as there is ser ious danger of fire because of increased draft, the chief said. Firemen answered three alarms during a windy spell last eve ning. Minor Accidents Dwain Mon roe of Ashland and William E. Colwell of Phoenix drove vehicles involved in a slight mishap on the Pacific highway near Phoenix Thursday after noon, according to a report on file today. Charles A. Moore of Ashland and L. T. Roselle of Bandon operated cars in volved in a minor wreck on the Pacific highway near the county poor farm Wednesday afternoon, a report on file said today. G. PASSES AGED 7G Grants Pass, Dec. 8. VP) Eclus Pollock, 76, Josephine county judge for six years and assessor for 14, died here today after a long illness. Born in Linn county, he moved with his parents to this county in 1867 and joined the Pioneer Methodist church at "old Grants Pass," north of here, before the present city was founded. He was a member of the first high school graduating class of the present city. His widow and a sister, Mrs. Gertrude Davis, Fort Collins Colo., survive.
