E IS SPEEDIEST YET Philadelphia, Dec. 5. (P) Secret devlopments of a new liquid-cooled, 42-cylinder motor that may propel one of the world's fastest planes was dis closed today at the annual con vention of the American Soci ety of Mechanical Engineers. Dr. Alexander Kremln, pro fessor of aeronautics at New York university, said in a pre pared report the motor was be ing built by "one of the major engine manufacturers," but be cause of government secrecy no details were available. Aircraft authorities attending the sessions said such a motor should develop a speed of more than 400 miles an hour and would have enough power to pull an airplane almost ver tically after the take-off. Oakland, Ore., Dec. S. (Spl) A turkey dressing contest to determine the champion fast turkey picker will be a feature of the Northwestern Turkey Show here December 12 to IS. The contest, on the second day of the show, will be In charge of Frank Sparks, department superintendent. It will Include a competition for men and one for women with prizes ranging from $1 to $10. Mr. Sparks is endeavoring to secure a complete quota of 20 entrants for the event. He already has word from a Jack son county woman who claims to be the very best and fastest picker in the state, that she will be on hand. Each contestant must furnish his own bird and dressing tools. Seven prizes are offered in the men's contest and four in the women's. Entries may be made now or during the show. Death Ends Annual Pinochle Contest Seattle, Dec. 8. (IF) There will be no more annual pinochle games between Jens Hansen, Seattle, and his twin, Hans Hansen, Portland. Jens, secretary-treasurer of a baking company, died yester day. At 84, last June 24, they believed themselves the nation's oldest twins. (Pi Authorities revealed today group of unidentified men had attacked American Federation of Labor headquarters and the home of a ClO-union official yesterday after Saturday night's invasion and wrecking of a communist hall. Four large windows in the AFL building were smashed with stones thrown by men in an automobile, and a short time later the home of H. I. Tucker was subjected to a similar bar rage, breaking the front win dows. Two persons, arrested yester day in connection with the wrecking of the hall where communists had scheduled a dance, were released. Denny Dyer, business agent of a CIO loggers union, was re leased on ball. Authorities said he was arrested when he ac cused the police department of failure to prevent a riot. George Perkins, a longshore man, also was jailed and re leased when he refused to call the patrol wagon for Dyer. ATTEiJGW.S.C. Washington State Collcg?, Pullman, Wash., Dec. 5. (Spl) Three students from Medford are enrolled at Washington State this semester. W.S.C. has 4014 students this year from nearly every state in the union and from several foreign countries. This repre sents an all-time attendance record on the Pullman campus. Oregon ranks high among states in sending students to W.S.C, with 69. The three from Medford, to gether with their class and field of specialization, are as follows: Lewis Campbell, sophomore, veterinary medicine: Robert Hayes, sophomore, pre-law; and Ray Lewis, junior, veterinary medicine. In an address prepared for delivery before students of the Wharton school of finance of the University of Pennsylvania, the Democratic national chair man said that "although politic ians probably stand more abuse than any other group the suc cess of our democracy is to a large measure dependent on them." (JPj Fran cis Lloyd RIgby, a 21-year-old farmer from Wembley, Alberta, Canada, was proclaimed the king of the wheat fields at the 21st international hay and grain show today.
