Among them are: Mrs. Leaf, an old lady, portrayed by Vir ginia Shanahan; Myra, a nurse, played by Kathryn Shelley; and a detective, George Codding, on the trail of the nurse with klep tomaniac tendencies. Development of the simple plot centers around how a chance reading of a psalm by the station agent, Don Shana han, affects their lives and brings them to realize the full meaning of Thanksgiving. Bob Childers supervised cos tumes and stage setting, while Helen Gilham acted as student director. Mrs. J. A. Smith, club adviser, was In general charge of the production. A pep assembly was held in the boys' gymn at the end of the sixth period Wednesday, to inspire pep for the Thanksgiv ing game with Coquille. Clay Higglna and Ed Peter son presented short program of entertainment featuring cow boy songs and yodeling. Short speeches were made by Mr. Sether, Mrs. Early and Mr. Burke. A "radio program" fea tured Bob Newland as Co qullle's coach and Dale Howard as Medfqrd's. The program was announced by Harry Thurman. Don and Beulah led the stu dents in a few yells following by a talk on the game by Coach Bowerman. The Boys' and Girls' leagues of this school have been co operating the past week on bas kets of food to be presented to the poor people of Medford who otherwise wouldn't have special Thanksgiving dinners. This program has been under direction of Alpha Whillock, auxiliary chairman, and Miss Sue Moshberger, dean of girls. The committees worked hard to collect foodstuffs for the bas kets that were distributed by the Boys' league Wednesday. This work is carried out by the 1 e a g u e g every year at Thanksgiving. They placed bar- els In the halls where students can leave their donations. Then the Girls' league purchased enough staple foods to fill the required amount for the bas kets. $8,854,510 DEFICIT PENDERGAST LEGACY Kansas City, Nov. 23. The federal money has been authorized by congress but al location will not be made until about January 1. The total pro gram would cost $656,000 more than that of the present fiscal year but would be $970,000 cheaper than that of 1939. Henry G. Endcrs of Ashland, serving his fourth time on the budget committee, will act as chairman, with W. H. Young of Eagle Point, Leonard Carpen ter, Medford, and members of the county court, all members of the budget committee, pres ent. There are no signs of any thing more than normal interest being shown at the public hear ing with the usual number of taxpayers present, to listen to the reading of the budget. The road fund shows some Increase, at the request of tax payers affected. The budget also provides for extension of the road oiling program. Appropriations for county of fices ana departments are prac- tically the same as last year. Following the public hearing the budget will be certified, ap proved and turned over to the county assessor for extension on the tax rolls. Assessor Coleman estimates, on the basis of budget as published, the general tax levy will show an increase of four-tenths of a mill. KATHER1NE ADAMS FUNERAL FRIDAY Katherine A. (tP) Undefeated Tennessee stands out as the best bet for the Rose Bowl invitation, but don't make any bets on it Just yet. Boiled down to more words than It's probably worth, pre dictions of this kind having a way of coming back to you, here is what three authoritative sources say in behalf of the three leading teams eligible for the lucrative bid Tennessee, Texas A. and M., and Cornell: Tennessee will accept an in vitation if it is rendered. Texas A. and M. would like one, but will not be broken hearted if It misses out; they'll be bidding again in 1941. Cornell honestly and sincere ly will not accept a post season engagement because of its iron clad agreement with its Ivy league brethren. Texas is the principal cotton growing state of the country. 3 NEED CASH? BORROW ON YOUR CAR bat u explain ho easy It is to ban readf caah with four car aa tecum? Neither team has been beaten, Coquille blasting eight straight opponents and keeping its goal line uncrossed, and Medford knocking off seven foes In eight starts, with one ending in a tie. Coach Bill Bowerman of the Black Tornado refused to make any predictions on the outcome of the game. All he would say was, "I believe it will be quite ball game. Coach E. E. (Spike) Leslie of Coquille and 26 of his Red Devil gridders arrived In Medford last evening and registered at the Hotel Medford. The Coquille team was in fine shape for the struggle, it was learned, and prepared to shoot the works against the Tornado. BOZELL, PILUSO Paul Bozell and Ernie Plluso, currently the two most capable grappling lads In southern Ore gon, will fight it out In next Monday night's main event In the armory, Promoter Mack Lil lard announced today. Bob Kenaston, victim of Bozell's Boston Crab holds last Monday, will meet King Kong Clayton In the middle event. The Negro beat Herb Parks last time out. Eddie Rogers of Michigan, a clean boy who was here sev eral weeks ago, returns to face Parks in the opener. Although the latter lost to Clayton last Monday he made a hit with lo cal fans.
