Considerable progress was made in clearing and burning brush between the cemetery anil the highway. Setting out of the old-fashioned yellow rose bushes was begun. Lilacs and other shrubs were also set out. So much remains to be done how ever, that another work day has been set for Thursday, Novem ber 0, when it is planned to work on the road and set up ornamental gate posts at the highway entrance. Gold HiU Gold Hill, Nov. 6 (Spl.) A reception in the form of a mas querade party for the Gold Hill school teachers and all connected with the school, was held Friday, in the I.O.O.F. hall, by five local organizations: The Rebekah Lodye, Odd Fellow Lodge, Gold Hill Grange, Gold Hill Garden club, and the W. R. C. Music for dancing was furnished by the Gold Hill Accordion Band and several vocal numbers and stunts were enjoyed. The hall was beautifully decorated with au tumn leaves and Hallowe en decorations. Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Parker at tended the O.S.C.-W.S.C. foot ball game, and visited friends and relatives In Portland. They returned Monday. Mrs. Millie Walker and da ugh ter. Ted Arnold who has been visiting his sister, Mrs. C. H. Haynes, and his brother, Jerry Arnold, has returned to his home in Sacramento, Cat. Mrs. Cora T. Gustin, former I teacher, visited Derby school Tuesday. She brought eight of her pupils from Independ ence school and won a baseball game from the Derbyites. Mr. and Mrs. I. Haynes and family were happily surprised Thursday. When they counted noses for breakfast they found their son Lyle had slipped in during the night. He decided to use his 10-day emergency leave from the CCC at this time. Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Webb have been busy planting their fall crop. Mrs. T. R. Mercer visited Mrs. Scott Boyer Friday. Mr. Wilkinson returned the first of the week from Eugene where ho had been looking for a place for the coming year.
