Cronln's moving story has been made into a powerful motion pic ture that has won much piBise from the critics. Gen. John J. Pershing is resting in a cottage on the edge of the desert, where he may finish his autobiography and prepare the stir ring events of a long life for pre sentation as a motion picture, A Hollywood producer has been negotiating for the moving picture rights and General Pershing has seriously considered the proposal, and is said to have indicated a preference for Gary Cooper in the principal role. Last winter's illness postponed the negotiations, but the general resumed work on the auto biography while In France this sum mer and hopes to complete It this winter. But first must come a little rest ing and a. physical check-up. (AP) Sel ected stocks displayed recovery symp toms in trday's market but many issues still were inclined to rest af ter their recent climb. While individual spots of strength and weakness were in evidence at the close, minor gains and losses were about evenly divided. Numer ous stocks were unchanged. Dealings were quiet throughout, transfers ap proximating 500,000 shares for the two hours. A few steels, alrcrafts, utilities and specialties gave the best account of themselves. Motors, rails. oil3. mail orders and coppers held to a narrowly uneven groove. Further weakness of Lowe's was somewhat of a chilling influence on speculative sentiment. U. S. Steel and Bethlehem drew support notwithstanding another downtourn in steel mill operations next week was believed in the cards. Before sailing on the Queen Mary, Eden said: "My wife and I have enjoyed every moment of our visit and we leave the United States with very deep regret. People in your country are very kind." (AP) Now Yellow river floods inundating six districts of northern Klaugsu pro vince were reported today in dis patches from the endangered area, approximately 400 miles northwest of Shanghai. Flood waters were mild to have breached river dykes near Kalfong. Honan. and poured as far southward as Klangaus northernmost tip. Meanwhile Chungking dispatches quoted the Chinese vice minister of air. General Chen Cheng, as estimat ing Japanese casualties at 270.000 men during Yangtze valley fighting from June through September, Of these 06,000 were killed In action. Chen declared 30,000 Japanese sol diers had been sacrificed to gain 50 miles along the Anchang railway since the fall of Kluklang July 26. Green has the support of the Chi cago Republican committee headed by Edward P. Moore, Cook county chairman, and a citizen group op posed to the candidacy of former Mayor William Hale Thompson. Thompson announced his candi dacy Tuesday night. (jpy Oregon In the last four years has obtained buildings for the state institutions of higher education without using any educational tax funds though the building value Is $2,583,047, Gov ernor Charles H. Marnr. was told by Wtllard L. Marks, president of the state board of higher education. The letter, to accompany the bi ennial report of the board to the governor, reviews briefly the progress of the state system during the last two years, explains the financial re quests being made for the coming biennium, mentions major adminis trative changes and reports on the success of the several institutions In educating the youth of the state. Regarding the construction pro gram President Marks points out that the facilities have been badly needed for several years but that the board's limited budget had to be used almost entirely for operation, leaving no funds for new buildings. "It will be noted that this building prog rem was financed almost entirely by federal grants and loans, and pri vate gifts." President Marks wrote. "The loans are secured by the stu dent building fees at the various Institutions and are not obligations of the state of Oregon at all." Hange Feeding Gains PORTLAND, Dec. 17.
