NEW YORK, Dec. 17. (AP) Sel

issues still were inclined to rest af

While individual spots of strength
and weakness were in evidence at
the close, minor gains and losses
were about evenly divided. Numer
ous stocks were unchanged. Dealings
were quiet throughout, transfers ap
proximating 500,000 shares for the
two hours.
A few steels, alrcrafts, utilities
and specialties gave the best account
of themselves. Motors, rails. oil3.
mail orders and coppers held to a
narrowly uneven groove.
Further weakness of Lowe's was
somewhat of a chilling influence on
speculative sentiment.
