S. ' Nevita chapter No. 93 O. . 8. of Central Point met for the regular meeting Tuesday evening, November 22 In the Maaonlo hall. At the close of the chapter meeting a group of "colored gentlemen" entered the room singing plantation melodies. Very soon "Joe", an old decrepit darkey, leaning heavily upon his gnarled and twisted cane, made hts way to the stage singing "Old Black Joe." The minstrel show which followed was very cleverly arranged and presented. The Interlocutor seemed- to pry very deeply Into the Uvea of his compan. tone adding much fun to the situa tion. Sambo quite "regusted" with the lnqulsitiveness of Mr. Interlocu ter got revenge by leaving him to hold his fishing pole while he pre tended to get something, but In real- Ity sat down and laughed at his helper. Eugene tells of the pledging of Miss Barbara Richmond Holt to Mu Phi Epslfon, national music honorary. Miss Holt Is one of two under graduates to receive a bid to this society. She la also a member of Phi Beta, national mualc and drama honorary. Miss Holt Is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. William P. Holt of this city. She was pledged to Mu Phi Epsllon at a reception In Eugene Tuesday evening after the University of Ore gon Symphony concert. - Stockwell Children Honored at Party Mr. and Mra. Charles Stockwell entertained Friday afternoon at a birthday party at their home In Phoenix. The occasion celebrated the birthdays of their two children, Oer aldlne, age I. and Lyle, age 4. November 19, for their regular monthly meeting. Members enjoyed a apeclal treat In hearing Miss Betty Jane Johnson play "Scherzo" by Mendelssohn and "Tapping at the Window" as an encore. Mrs. Sherman Divine read a most Interesting paper on Mary Morris, wife of the financier of the American Revolution. Mrs. Divine Is a former member of Mary Morris chapter of Washington and her paper well por trays the fine character of this lady of colonial days. Several guests were present and Introduced, among them were Mrs. Ray Wllfley, a member of Qrlverla chapter of Falrbury, Neb., Mrs. Chas. Johnson, and Mra. A. F. Burke of Whitewater, Cal. The regent, Mrs. Bert Lowry, an nounced the gift of a chair to Kate Duncan Smith school In Alabama. The gift was made by Mrs. H. E. Armstrong, past regent of Crater Lake chapter. Mrs. E. H. Hurd also con tributed a chair to the school. Mrs. A. B. stratten and her twin sister, Mrs. A. F. Burke, made a lovely picture as they presided at the tea table. Gllstrap and non Bob and Miss Velma Severson are spending several days In Eugene. The former two are guests of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Walker and Miss Severson Is visiting her parents. Symphony Orchestra Concert Will Be December Event The first of a series of presenta tions of the .Southern Oregon Sym phony orchestra will be held Decem ber 14 and will consist of Schubert's Unfinished symphony. Miss Marcla Van Dyke of Burllngame, Cal., for merly of Grants Pass, will be tho guest artist. Miss Van Dyke Is an accomplished violinist and her ap pearance here will be a rare treat to music lovers. The Southern Oregon Symphony orchestra was formerly the Southern Oregon Junior Symphony orchestra. The name was changed because mem bers of the orchestra personnel are from all of southern Oregon and any talented musician may play In the orchestra. Tickets for the symphony are now on sale at Ethelwyn Hoffmann's shop and Prultt's Radio and Music center. Mrs. Hoffmann may be contacted for any additional information regarding the orchestra. It la anticipated that the whole of southern Oregon will support this project, which Is one of the most worth while in the state. John R. Invitations were Issued to a num ber of Medford persons for the affair last week by the sponsors, the Nurses' association. The event Is from 0:30 to 13:30 o'clock. Patrons and patronesses Include the following: Dr. and Mrs. C.T. Sweeney, Dr. and Mrs. J. C. Hayea. Dr. and i Mrs. E. R. Durno, Dr. and Mrs. D. H. I Find ley, Dr. and Mrs. A . E. Proceeds realized from the dancing party will be sent to the Florence Nightingale International Foundation fund and will be used to send a deserving nurse to the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing In London. The school Is represented by students from all countries. Prior to this year there has been Just one nurse sent to the school from the United States and this year there were two. Steve Whlpples orchestra will play at the dance. Oakland Guests Visit Mankes Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Hurst and grandson Billy and Mr. and Mra. Jack Frost of Oakland, Calif., were house guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Manke on Bellinger Lane. Mrs. Hurst Is Mrs. Manke's sister and Mrs. Frost Is the Hursts' daugh ter. The guests enjoyed Thanksgiving Day dinner when the Mankes were hosts at a large family gathering. The visitors left for their Oakland homes on Friday. Contemporary Book Club Will Convene The Contemporary Book club will convene Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Floyd Hart on Grant Road. Miss Mfl'e Bottom played the wed ding march. The bride, daughter of the late Sam L Jones, was born and raised In this valley and graduated from the Jacksonville high school. Mr. Troyanek Is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Troyanek of Chattanooga, Tenn. He received his schooling In that city and later attended the otate university at Knoxville, Tenn. A reception followed the wedding at the Jones home after which 17 guests Including the immediate fam ily and friends enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner. The couple will make their home here at 16 Mistletoe street.
