Sons of the American Revolution met In the First Presbyterian church last evening In celebration of the 167th anniversary of the battle of Yorktown. A dinner served by ladles of Grace Circle preceded the program. A very good representation of the members of the chapter were present, repre senting Grants Pass, Klamath Falls and Med ford. Attorney A. C. Hough of Grants Pass, first vloo president of the chap ter, gave an Interesting resume of the events leading up to and a graphic word picture of the "Sur render of Lord Cornwallls at York town." Citing the battle of Yorktown and the progression and retrogression of events leading up to our present day. Prank Hull spoke In glowing and elo quent terms on "better advance to patriotism." basing his remarks on the law of Moses, stating that "the spirit that organized this government was another law of Moses." Speaking of the Immigration prsolem. Mr. Hull stressed the vital Importance of teaching and acting "Americanism," on the street. In the school, on the playground, everywhere. (fl) An or der signed today by Federal Judge Claude McCotloch permitted Meta P. Simon, creditor, to foreclose mort gages on real property owned . by Hendy Van Hoevenberg, a well-known Medford pear producer. Van Hoevenberg was granted a two year redemption limit to save more than 200 acres of orchard. There will be no deficiency judgment and the Judge said Van Hoevenberg was as sured the property would be main tained as an orchard during the re demption period. The Judge had granted a stay In the proceedings last June. In April he dented a motion to dismiss n farmer-debtor petition In an effort to aid the grower who had devoted 28 years to developing the tract. The court had based Its decisions on the hope of favorable market conditions this year and noted that the outlook hod turned out to be unfavorable. The Medford Production Credit as sociation eaftler this year reported a $14,000 loss on Van Hoevenberg's 1937 crop. Memorialise Fire Fighters CODY. Wyo. (AP) A monument has been constructed on the North fork highway to the memory of 15 men and youths who lost their lives In 1937 fighting a forest fire in the Blackwater forest fire. Oct. 20. (AP) An invi tation to King George VI and Queen Elizabeth of Great Britain to visit Oregon on their proposed North American tour next summer was sent today by Gov. Charles H. Martin Mayor Joseph K. Carson of Portland, and Leslie M. Scott, president of the Portland Chamber of Commerce. The Invitation, bearing the seals of the state, the city of Portland and the Portland chamber of com merce, was sent to Sir Ronald Lind say, British ambassador to the United States. Enrollment of 64.716 members in Oregon Inst year was a gain of 8.976 or 16 ppr rent over the membership of the pre vious year. For the third consecutive year, Cornelius C. Colt has been appoint ed state chairman for the Oregon roll-call. A former vice-president of the First National bank of Portland. Mr. Colt has long been Identified with civic and social welfare enter prises. ASHLAND, Oct. 20. (Spl.) Con tract between the City of Ashland and the California Oregon Power company waa renewed for five years at .. Tuesday night's regular council meeting. The extended contract is virtually the same as the present one. Under the contract the city power supply will continue to be supple mented by, purchase of current from the company. The contract provldea a rate of nine mills for the first 50.000 kilo watt houra per month and eight mills for the next 60.000. When the con sumption exceeds 100.000 kilowott houra the rate la 7 5 mills excepting In any month when the Copco aupply exceeda 50 per cent of -the total In which event the first 50.000 kilowatt hours will cost nine mills and any thing in excess 7.5 mllla.
