Dough rty of the Brookhurst orchards on the Crater Lake highway reported to city police yesterday that a brown metal tool box containing assorted wrenches, socket sets, files and ether tools was stolen from the ranch sometime Monday night. He also stated that two automobile tires were stolen. Hansen Leaving Mr. and Mrs Harry Hansen will leave next week for the Willamette valley where Mr. Hansen expects to enter business while Mrs. Hansen attends Orrgon Normal school at Monmouth. Mrs. Hansen, who has taught In Central Point for the past 13 years, resigned her position Saturday. Mr. Hansen has severed his connection with the George Yeo realty agency here pre paratory to the move. Smoker Fire A careless smoker was held to blame today for a fire that last evening burned over 20 teres of grass and brush in the GrU fin creek area four miles west of Phoenix. Who the smoker was could not be established, the state district tire warden's office said. The blaze was reported at 4 p. m. and although It was not In a protective area the state office here sent two crews of four men each with a pumper. The fire was declared out at 8 p. m. To Install Members of Medford post and auxiliary of the American Legion were today planning to attend the annual Installation of officers which will be held in the armory next Wednesday evening, August 24. . After the Joint Installation ceremony thre will be dancing. A supper served by auxiliary members will be the con eluding feature of the evening's pro gram. Commanding officers are urg ing all member?! to set next Wed nesday evening aside for this annual get-together party. , Army Posts Open Recent war department regulations provide for the examination of applicants for commission In the medical adminis trative corps of the regular United States army, it was stated In a pre,y release received today from MeJ. (API Sheriff's officers said Mrs. Elliabeth Trlff, paroled from the state hos pital for mentally afflicted at Cam arlllo. tried to kill her two small children with a paring knife today but that the courage of five-year old Jole TTIff saved his life and that of his sister. Mary, three. J. B. McCoy, sheriff's deputy, said Mrs. Trlff became crazed, took the children Into the bathroom of her home, locked the door and told Jola. "We are all going to sleep." McCoy said Jole told him he saw Mrs. Trlff poise the knife above lit tle Mary's head. Jole grabbed his mother's wrists, shielded his sister, pushed his mother off balance, un locked the door, and fled from the house before his mother could over take them.
