Miss Gore Writes Of New York and Med ford Visitors Mlae Beulah Oore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Oore of this city who la spending the summer in New York elty taking graduate work at Comm. bla university In letters to Medford friends relates many Interesting vent regarding New York. Mis Oore writes that on registra tion day at Columbia she met Miss Maurlne Carroll, Miss Carln Deger mark, and Miss Harriet Baldwin, for mer Medford high school teachers Bow attending Columbia. She also saw many teachers from Klamath Falls and numerous University of Oregon faculty members. When Howard Hughes . returned from his spectacular flight, Miss Oort witnessed the parade in his honor, ad she relates "for a time nothing was to be seen but crowds, policemen la uniform, reporters, cameramen and feature writers, then suddenly the air was electric a signal was given and the filers, their wives and escorts In 10 care came Into view. Miss Brophy Has House Guest Miss Iverne Perry of Seattle recent ly arrived In Medford and la the house guest of Mlas Elaine Brophy at th home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. V. D. Brophy on the Eagle Point road. Mlas Perry and Mlas Brophy are sorority alsters of Chi Omega at the University of Wsshlngton. The visi tor has been taken to Lake of the Woods and to Crater Lake and will enjoy other acenlo trips during her Medford sojourn. Bishops Leave For Vacation Mr. and Mrs. Lee Bishop and daughter Beverly, departed ' yeeterdsy for Diamond Lake where they will vacation for several weeka at the John Johnson summer home. Haines Home Scene of Party Louis (Ntckle) Haines, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Haines of 333 South Riverside avenue, celebrated his 8th birthday on Friday when he Invited a group of young playmatea to par ticipate in a party. Louis and tils six small guests attended a matinee of "Troplo Holiday" and then proceeded o the Haines home where they in dulged In delectable refreshments, complete with birthday cake and all, aervM at a gayly decorated table. From Red Bluff, Cal. came Mr Emmet Pendleton, well known com poser and musician. Of Interest here will be the publication next month of Mr. Pendleton's collection of '26 songs. The group has been nemed "Mlnlaturea." Mr. Pendleton and Father Bartlam have been frlenda for 36 years. The Bartlams' other guest was Mi Ma Oong Wong, formerly an Instruc tor In the sctiools of Canton, China He recently graduated from Cnlver- alty of California In Berkeley, Cal. Following his sojourn In Medford he went to Eugene to view the Univer sity of Oregon campus. During their stay here. Father Bartlam took his guest to Crater lake and other points of Interest In the valley. They left yesterday lor the south. The visitors have been on an auto tour as far north as British Columbia and during their stay here visited Crstcr Lske, Oregon Caves and other points of Interest. ASSOCIATION New Officers Installed At Zonta Meeting At a special meeting of the Zonta Club held at the home of Mrs. Mar garet Fabrlck last Tuesday evening, a report on the annual International Convention at Banff was given and new officers for the coming year were Installed. . Mrs. Thora Lawrence, who was the delegate from the Medford Club re ported that the delegates at the Con vention initiated a revolving scholar ship as a memorial to Zontlan Amelia Earhart which would be available to women engineering students who are particularly Interested In aeronautics. It was also recommended that women make a more Intensive study of pub lic affairs local, national, and Inter national. The following officers were In stalled: Thora Lawrence. J. Fredenburg of this city. Mr. Fredenburg. well known In Medford has lived here with his par ents all of his life and graduated from Medford high school. The young couple recently return ed from Canada and are residing at 419'i East Main street. Chapter The following excerpt from a I port on the formation of a new com mittee In connection with the "Good Citizenship Pilgrimage In which Crater Lake chapter is so much In terested and has nominated such out standing candidates for the honor. The excerpt from the Oregon Jour nal follows: A new committee created at the last continental congress of the Daughters of the American Revolu tion Is the good citizenship pilgrims clubs. It has Just been announced by the presl dent-general, Mrs. Henry M. Robert Jr., of Annapolis, Md.. that Mrs. Elmer H. Whlttaker of Santa Bar bara, Cal. has been appointed head of this committee. Vice chairmen are Mrs. Clarence H. Adams of Denver and Mrs. Charles E. Head of Seattle. Formation of this committee Is In connection wltn the annual good cit izenship pilgrimage sponsored by the D. A. R., whereby a senior high school girl from each state wins a trip to Washington, D. C. Hereafter, these pilgrims are to become members of the Good Citizenship Pilgrims club. Announcement was made last week of the appointment of Mrs. John Y. Richardson of Portland as chairman of Vie Americanism committee. Two other Oregon women have been given appointments. Mrs. Ralph W. Drummond, returned to Medford recently to make their home here. - The couple wintered In Norfolk, Neb., where Dr. Drummond was a hospital staff member.
