C OF C COMPLIMENTED ON STAND FOR ROGUE FREE FROM POLLTION The Jackson County Chamber of Commerce was complimented on Its stand for an unpolluted Rogue River yesterday by Oeorge Bower of Santa Barbara, Gal who had Just com pleted a six-weeks' stay on the upper river near McLeod and who likes the fishing so much that he plana to return In September and build a house on one of two lots he pur chased at McLeod bridge. Mr. Bower, who has been a yearly fisherman In the river for the past 11 summers, stated that the reason he comes here every season Is be cause the Rogue la so undefiled, making It one of the finest rivers for angling In the country. This year Mr. Bower landed nine big salmon, the largest weighing 37!4 pounds and dressing 33 pounds. He caught It last Friday and Immediately entered It In Lamport's contest. Dean, for 13 years basket ball and baseball coach at University of Indiana, was virtually assured the position of head basketball coach at Stanford university today. The Stanford board of athletic con trol recommended Dean's apolntment last night. It Is subject to approval by President Ray Lyman Wilbur and the board of trustees, which likely will come within a week. No salary terms nor length of contract were disclosed. (UP) Two young sons of Mr. and Mrs. Gleason Hull were burned to death laat night when fire destroyed the Hulls' home at Rainier, approximate ly 15 miles southeast of Olympla. The children, Ronald, 3. and Dale, 3, apparently set their bed clothing afire while playing with matches. The flames spread so rapidly the boys' parents and neighbors were unable to rescue them.
