In this week radio stations, large and small, will transmit the message over the air to millions of homes, newspaper reporters In some new story will bring back the memory of the old swlmmli ' hole and pal dog, cartoonists will depict life realism In their popular propaganda, the clergj and Sundny schools will present les sons of kindness, thousands of teach ers In the publlo schools will make the week an occasion for clebratlon. Pleas for Justice for animals will be uttered all over the land and many posters circulated and exhibited. The Humane Society has for Its ob jective, not only care and protection of unfortunate animals, but Its main excuse for exlstnnce Is It effort to Instill Into children of tho country lessons of kindness, compassion and consideration for others. Rev. Dr. S. Paikes Cadman, radio minister for the pcdoral Council of Churches of Christ In America, spend ing over WEAF once said, that hu man beings who act like brutes to ward dumb animals are not men as God conceives man, that they lack those characteristics that differently ate them from other loving creatures and that they sink to such a acale of moral being that they forfeit tho ro apeot of all decent people. Dr. Cad man said that many animals dis played such traits In their attitude toward their human companions that "I wonder why the bliss of any fu ture paradise should be denied them." "Be kind to animals anniversary" Is not an experiment. It Is a nation al event. Kindness Is the koynoto ol humanity. To promote this Idea Join the national be kind to animal week, not only this week but for all the ensuing weeks of the year. The late Dr. David Starr Jordon of Stanford university, expressed this Idea aptly when he said: "If a child Is made to realize mat w wuw needless suffering Is wicked, It gos a long way toward building whole some character aa well as towards encouragement of development of that frame of mind that makea universal peace a necessity." She also told of visiting the Wllday monument while In Baltimore last year. H. K. Zimmerman of Aitorl. grand master of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows for tha state of Oregon, and also olrcult Judge of Clatsop and Columbia counties, gave a splendid address. He told of the progress made by Odd Fellowship during Its 110 years of existence in the United States and of its accomplishments la oaring for the aged and orphans, and In assisting In relief of Its membera and families.
