(API Allan Chllcote, 18, Klamath Falls, died early today of Injuries suffered when the oar In which he was riding collided with a horse last night on the Weed highway south of here. The "yllision lifted the horse onto the hood of the car and Into the windshield, buckling the frame and breaking off both front doors. The machine careened Into a ditch and overturned. The horse was badly mangled. Thomas Hatfield, driver of the car, said he thought It was the upset rather than the collision that Injured Chllcote. Besides Chllcote, one of six others In the automobile was hurt. Chllcote suffered a skull fracture and punctured lung. Mrs. Odium Breaks Air Speed Record MIAMI. Fla.. Dec. 3. (AP) Jac queline Cochran, wife of the finan cier, Floyd B. Odium, smashed tne New York-to-Mlaml speed record to day when she flew the 1170 miles in 1 hours. 12 minutes and 28 seconds. The previous record, set by the late Jimmy Weddell of Louisiana in 1933. was 5 hours, 1 minute, si' though Frank Hawks flew from East Hartford. Conn.. In 4 hours, 63 min utes last April. Baker Area Mills Close For Winter BAKER. Dec. 3. (AP) Business conditions and Inclement weather have collaborated to such an extent In Baker county and surrounding territory that by the end of this week lumber operations in the coun ty will be completely suspended. Officials of the Stoddard and Ore. gon Lumber companies stated that the weather had made roads virtu ally Impassable for lumber vehicles and that marketing conditions were of such a nature to further make It advisable io halt operations in the plants. Grapes Coffee Muffin Somerset (Makes Eight) 1 "4 cups mashed banana lVa cups flour 1 cup bran 1 teaspoons soda 3-3 teaspoon salt. 1-3 cup granulated sugar 1 egg cup sour cream 3-3 cup ra til ns I teaspoon vanilla Press bananas through a strainer. Add to the rest of the Ingredients. Boat for one minute. Half-fill greas ed muffin pans and bake for 25 min utes In a moderately slow oven. Fruit Salad Bowl 1 cup sliced oranges 1 cup diced pineapple 1 cup grapefruit segments 1 cup cress or shredded lettuce 1-3 cup diced celery 'i teaspoon aalt 1- 3 cup French dressing Mix Ingredients in a bowl. Chill Toss with spoon and fork. Serve Im mediately. Corn Spoon Bread 1 cup corn meal 1 cup corn, cooked 2- 3 cup flour 1 teaspoon salt 3 teaspoons baking powder 1 table-spoon granulated sugar 3 eggs, beaten 1 cups milk 1-3 cup fat, melted Mix ingredients and beat together for two minutes. Pour Into a buttered baking dish. Set in a pan of watr and bake for one hour In a moderate oven. Candled orange shells make un usual containers for mashed squash or sweet potatoes.
