Klckoff time Is eight o'clock sharp. Over 6000 spectators are expected to pack the huge, covered grand stand, the temporary bleachers, and the sidelines as Coach BUI Bower man reveals his new and fighting Tigers In action against the football machine undefeated In 31 consecutive trips to the post. Btate Attention The football eyes of Oregon will be centered on Medford tonight. Already the drums of ballyhoo are booming Coach John Londahl'a Bend aggregation as the state's "top hole" i grid array; the logical choice for that Thanksgiving day battle In Portland against the metropolitan champion. A victory over Medford will leave only Klamath Palls standing In the pathway of a second straight un beaten year, and will practically clinch the Portland bid for the Lava Bears. A defeat for Bend, and Port land will took elsewhere for Its ''championship game" opponent. In the last game played, between the two schools, In 1934, ' Medford turned on the heat to win going away, 37-0. This season, even the most loyal and rabid Tiger enthusiast can't see a repetition of that en counter. In fact, Tornado backers are having a dlfftcult time seeing a Tor nado win, even by a lone point. What betting la going on along Main street, which Is not much, has estab lished the Lava Bears six-point fav orites. Tornado Revitalized Two-time losers so far and dead locked once, Bower man machine Is apparently not In the same claas with Londahl'a brilliant outfit, which has run roughshod over Oregon' finest for more than two years. How- Tiger Trainer Coach BUI Bowermnn (nbore) sends Ills fltjhtlnt; Medford high Tigers against Bend's Lava Beari tonight at 8 o'clork at the high school stadium. The Tornado coach states his team will "open the honk" In an attempt to hand Bend IU first defeat in 21 games. Head Man Bowerman stated last night his team was entirely ready for Its acid test. Its toughest en counter of the year. He has given the Tornado almost a full week's rest to recuperate from the Klamath battle, and. announced that every regular was In top condition. Will Open Book We will open the book, when queried aa to the tactics Bend can expect. By opening the book, Medford will attempt to spring sensational Bobby Ettlnger Into the clear for a climax run or two and produce touchdown nasses from Eldon Grow to either Bob Wilson or Don Montelth or any ! of the llghtnlng-rast backs. Grow found himself In the Klamath game, not only as a Une-plunglng fullback, but as a forward pa&ser, as well. He will pitch plenty tonight. 80 will Jack Bowman when he Is In there. And, maybe even Ettlnger, who shoots them like bullets for short distances. .Upon, the ahoulders of Mcdford's seven linemen Is placed directly the task of halting a Bend attack that hasn't been halted all year. Walt Lldstrom, considered the greatest high school end In the state, features the Lava Bear attack with his slashing end-around gallops which usually finish over the goal line. He has scored seven touchdowns this season. Fullback Redden leads the Bend backfleld, exploding through holes In the Una with monotonous regularity. Bend'a vicious attack la developed from both a balanced and unbalanced line and a single and double wlngback backfleld formation. Hears Average 137 Reports from Bend state the Lava Beara average 167 pounds per player, extremely light for a high school ma chine. However, Medford scouts re port the eastern Oregon tana look considerably beefier. Medford, with an average weight of about 178, will undoubtedly be the heavier team on the field. Word from Bend today revealed the team would arrive In Medford about noon, coming In a special stage. The Bend high girls' pep club and drum corps will also make the trip to Med ford, 33 strong, and about 100 fans were expected to accompany their team. Years of Intense and bitter football rivalry will make Its 1937 explosion Saturday, afternoon at Ashland when Southern Oregon Normal's SONS face the Wolves of Oregon Normal In the feature attraction of home-coming. Klckoff Is at two o'clock sharp. Defeated twice and tied once In three starts. Coach Jean Eberhart's SONS machine will be gunning for Ita first win over Monmouth In three years. Comparative scores and past performances this year make the Wolves of Coach Al Cox odds-on fa vorites to repeat their 6-0 conquest of the SONS last season. Monmouth Is undefeated this year, and held the powerful Oregon frosh and Ore gon State Rooks to 6-8 ties. Sons Rested With an open date last Saturday following their 31-0 defeat at the hands of the Oregon yearlings Octo ber 16, the SONS are fully rested and In excellent condition for their big test of the year. Coach Eberhart has developed a surprise offense for the Wolves, which will be used for the first time tomorrow. Southern Oregon fans expect one of the most sensational In a long list of sensa tional games between the two schools. SONS lineup will be little changed from that which has opened all three battles so far this season. Jack Hud son, flashy ball-carrier, will be shifted from full to right half, and Al Simp son will take over his old fullback position. At the other halfback post will be Co-Captain Al Easiest rom. fastest man on the squad. Ray Nel son, blocker par excellent, will take care of the quarterback duties. In the line, Alfred Plaep will open at center, Butler, Brace and Sand burg will alternate at the guards, Johnson and Carey will be at the tackles, and Walt Sether and Co Captaln Ken Schilling will take care of the flank posts. riattliy Attacks Due Both teams are almost certain to open up with their most gaudy at tack, both on the ground and In the air. The SONS will be outweighed considerably by the visitors, but ex pect to offset the disadvantage by turning on plenty of burning speed. Starting lineup for the powerful Wolves will probably be Jake Miller, center; Buck Cgle and George Sul lens, guards; Dave Saleeby and Ted j Walberg, tacklea; and Roy Kodow 1 and Olenn Peterson, ends. In the backfleld. Ken Lunday will open at quarter; Dave Howard and Anthol Rlney at the halfbacks, and Floyd ; McOHnn, 300-pound tine-smasher, at j fullback.
