OCTOBER 21, lf)37 PAOE THREE NAVY DAY OBSERVED AT LEGION MEETING; STAG PARTY PLANNED "Navy Day" was observed by mem ber of Medford poet of the American Legion at their regular meeting in the armory Tuesday night. Legionnaire E. M. West told of the origin of this annual event which is observed throughout the nation on October 37 under the sponsorship of the Navy league. West, navy recruit ing officer for thla district, asked that all Legionnaires display thfe na tional colors on Navy Day. Lee Oarlock, who represented Med ford post at the national convention in New York last month, gavo a comprehensive report of the conven tion proceedings and quoted interest ing excerpts from the speech of Na tional Commander Colmery in which he vigorously assailed all subversive groups attempting to promote Com munism. Na7lsm and Fascism in this country. Accomplishments of the past year under Americanism, peace pro gram, rehabilitation. Immigration en forcement, child welfare and other important phases of the Legion's pro gram also were covered by Oarlock in his report. Excellent progress was reported on the plans for Armistice Day by the general chairman, Gain Robinson, who spoke of the various phases of the day's program, including the parade, street stunts, dugout, football game and the big Armistice dance and floor show which are expected to draw a record attendance this year. He also called for reports from the following committee chairmen, all of whom reported progress: Dugout, J. P. Pliegel; Lagion scrip sales, C. L. MacDonald: dance and floor show, Lee Gar lock; and advertising and publicity. H. L. Bromley. Legionnaire E. K. Bruegger, scout master of troop 7, reported on the Boy Scout rally in which the Legion troop made a good showing. He spoke of the need for suitable standards and emblems for the troop flags and a motion was passed to secure these items at once. Garloclt told of sev eral recent cases of relief for local disabled veterans being secured by i the Medford Legion post after all ! other efforts had proved futile. It was reported that the V. P. W. instituted a plan at the last conven-. tlon for an emergency relief orga nization which should prove effective In case of floods, fires and other major disasters. It should also tie in well with the American Legion service companies, organized by many posts several years ago for this same purpose, and which proved their effic iency in the Ohio floods, .the Cali fornia earthquakes and the Bandon fire, officers said. Commander MacDonald announced a big stag party with a Dutch lunch and entertainment free to all veter nas. to be held on Tuesday. November 3. The following committee has charge of the event: C. L. It was announc ed today. No reply has yet been received to the request, forwarded by Ben E. Harder, chairman of the chamber's committee on roads and highways. E. P. Lcavitt superintendent oi Crater Lake national park, could not be reached today but he was quoted by A. H.
