Mrs. Kurtz was presented with gift with Marmle Olson making the presentation speech. Major, Mrs. Stafford Will Reside Here Newcomers to the city Include Ma jor and Mra. Ben Stafford and son Bruce who will occupy the Dodge home on Oeneva. Major Stafford, who was transferred from Hawaii recent ly, will be In Redding, California, for a few weeks, and will come to Med ford about November 1 where he will be connected with the 000. Mra. Stafford has been here for a couple of weeks. She and her son are In Port land for the week-end as guest of Captain and Mrs. Blsy. Miss Dorothy Roberta Reaches Berlin Miss Dorothy Roberts, who left Medford in August on a six months trip to Europe, hss srrlved tn Berlin, according to word received by her parents, Mr. and Mra. O. M. Roberts. Miss Roberta traveled to Berlin from Parts and will remain there a cou ple of weeks. Later she will go to Italy and other . countries on the oontlnent. Two Leave for Nan Francisco Mrs. Belle Thompson and Mrs. Maud Clemenson' left Saturday for San Pranclsco where they will visit rela tives. Ford McCormick. accom panied by her two sisters, Miss Frances Powers and Miss Marie Pow ers, returned to her home here Fri day of Inst week following a three week's trip to Texas and way points. The Misses Powers remnlned over the week-end and left Monday morning for their home In Olendnle, Calif. The trio visited In Houston, Texas, as guests of Mr. Mccormick's brother- in-law, mayor of the city. Tholr Itinerary also Included the Ore ml Canyon and Boulder dam. They came home by way of Reno and Klamath Falls, where they were Joined by Miss Lucy McCormick, daughter of Mra. McCormick, who accompanied them to Medford for the week-end. Miss Mary Knopf Is Married at Vesper Service At a vesper aarvlca held last Sun day at the Lutheran church, Mlae Mary Knopf, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. E- Knopf, became the bride of Lloyd Bmlth, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Smith. The ceremony was perform ed by W. E. Stramro, pastor of Central Avenue Church of Christ. Mrs. 0. C. Pierce sang "At Dawn Ing" and Miss Maxlne Pierce played "Londonderry Air" preceding the ceremony. The Bridal Chorus from Lohengrin was played by Miss Pierce as the bridal party approached the al tar. "Love's Old Bweet Song" waa played as the couple received congrat ulations of their friends, following the marriage vows. The bride wore a. floor-length gown of light pink taffeta with pale blue sash. A coronet of baby breath, and pale blue delphinium adorned her hair. Her bridal bouquet consisted of pink rosebuds, blue delphinium, baby breath and maiden hair fern with shower bow of pink and white. Miss Roberta Mayfleld was brides maid and wore a gown of pale green organdy. She carried an arm bouquet of Talisman roses. Verne Knopf, bro thor of the bride, was best man for Mr. Smith. A wedding dinner for members of the Immediate families and Mr. and Mrs. Stramm waa held after the serv ice. Mr. and Mrs. Smith will live on the Old Stage Road. Crater Lake Guild Plans for Banquet Monday Evening Crater Lake Guild of tile Presby- I terlan church will open It year with the annual banquet to be held In the church Monday evening at six -thirty o'clock. This will be the Kick-off banquet and the sports Idea will be carried out In every detail of the program and decorations. The following program la to be presented: Toast by the referee, Mrs. 8. L. Divine; "Training ' by Mary Pbtpps; encouragement of the team led by pep leader Margaret Huson. On the game Itself the following team will speak, Captain Ella Pen nington, "Attributes of a Winning Team;" Winifred Welshaar. "Loyalty;" Frederlca Broinmer, "Teamwork;" Helen Holt Wilson, "On the Ball." Comments on the game will be made by Dr. S. L. Divine, pastor of the church. Mrs. Iverson. Music Club Installs Officers, Committee Reports Are Given Installation of officers was held at the regular meeting of the Medford Music club early In the week with Mrs. J. W. McCoy In charge of the ceremonies. Those Installed were: Mrs. Darrell Huson, president; Mrs, Lola Young, first vice-president; Mra. H. W. Webster, secretary; and Mrs. R. C. Mulholland, treasurer. Mrs. Young was elected to her position at the session, the other officers hav ing been named earlier. The club meets on the fourth Mon day of each month and anyone In terested Is Invited to Join either the active or associate list. Sixty were present for the past week's meeting. Frank R. Austen played piano num bers and Mr. R. w. Webster sang, ac companied by Mrs. Eva Hazelrlgg Marsh. Mra. Otto J. Frohnmayer. chairman of the ways and means committee, reported on an interesting program planned for the near future; Mrs. Effle Kurtz told of the formation and Installation of a Juvenile and Junior group; Mrs. Ella Mae Wilson Oail reported that the group will sponsor a short radio program at least once month over station KM ED. Tne constitution was read by Mrs. Ray Baker and Mrs. E. E. Gore, chairman of that committee. It was approved by the group. Mrs. Mulholland and Mrs. R. E. McElhose gave a report of the oratorio committee. Mrs. Roberta Ward Bebb, chairman of the program committee, and M 1 s a Genevieve Brown, head of the year book com mittee, presented the program for the year. Mrs. William Bower man and Mrs. Frohnmayer were In charge of the coffee table following the business and program. - Pioneer Group Plans Annual Meeting The annual meeting of the South ern Oregon Pioneer association will be held In Ashland the coming Thxtrsday beginning at 10:30 a.m. Moray Applegate. grandson of Lind say Applegata, and grandnephew of Jesse Applegate. two of the famous figures of early Oregon history, will be the principal apesker at the event which will convene in Pioneer hall. The bride wore a navy blue tailored suit and her corsage waa of Golden Gleam rosebuds. An Informal reception followed the coremony. Camp and Auxiliary Meet Wednesday United Spanish War Veterans camp and auxiliary will meet in regular session Wednesday evening at the atmory. A covered dish dinner will be served at 8:30 o'clock. Overmeyer, president of the Medford unit No. 15, American Legion auxiliary, haa announced that a covered dish dinner will be given Tuesday evening at the armory pre ceding the regular monthly meetings of Medford poet and auxiliary. The dinner will start promptly at 6 and all Legionnaires and auxiliary mem bers are urged to be present. The evening will be given over to infor mal entertainment and dancing fol lowing the meeting. The auxiliary has pledged Itself to take part In the community chest drive to be launched shortly, accord ing to Mr. Overmeyer.
