Catches Limit Glen Jewett, Med ford Junior high school student, re ported a limit catch of trout Wed nesday In Crater lake. He has been making consistently good catches In the lake. Studies Flora Miss Alice Raye has returned to her home here after spending several days visiting friends In Crater Lake national park. Miss Raye, made a study of Crater lake flora In keeping with her avocation of botany. Will Go Home Mrs. Tom Pryor of Ashland, who has been seriously 111 at Sacred Heart hospital for the past month, will be taken to her home In Ashland Monday. Zonta Club Outing An overnight trip to Dead Indian Soda Springs has been arranged by the Zonta club for this week-end. Members plan ning to go are requested to meet at 8 p. m. Saturday at Mrs. Stella Mer rick's on North Riverside avenue. A program designed for relaxation and recreation will be carried out at the spa. The group will return to town Sunday night. Packing Bouse Blare Fire under a platform of the Myron Root fruit packing plant on South Fir street was put out alst night without dam age. The blaze was caused by a cigarette that fell through a crack In the ulatform Into sawdust be neath. Chief Roy Elliott said. A worker making boxes on the plat form probably dropped the cigarette, the chief thought. The fire depart ment answered a ward alarm Just be fore 7 p. m. . 9 To Remove Minerals All persons having gems and minerals on display at the Jackson County Chsmber of Commerce are requested to report at the ohamber at 7:30 tonight. The displays will be distributed to their owners by E. R. Santo, president of the Southern Oregon Gem and Min eral society, exhibit sponsor. They are being removed pending comple tion of repairs to the chamber build ing, damaged by fire last Monday night. Navy Film Program A free motion picture program will be presented in city park at 0 p. m. Sunday by a travelling United States navy recruit ing party. The films show many activities of the navy. On Monday the party will give a lecture and show other naval movies at the week ly luncheon-meeting of the Klwanls club In the Hotel Medford. The re cruiting party will accept applications for enlistment In the navy and con duct examinations for qualified young men. Detailed information re garding 'enlistment and the visit of the recruiting group may be procur ed now from Ernest M. West, chief petty officer In charge of the re cruiting station in the federal build ing here. Thief Gets Pistol m From Conger Auto Another In the present series of petty thieveries was reported to state police yesterday when Homer A. Con ger of 375 South Central avenue said that a ,22-caJlber Iver Johnson re volver and a black leather holster and belt had been stolen from his parked automobile sometime between August 15 and 18. The car was parked In front of his home and was unlocked. Conger told state police. 1 Pioneer Dies. WALLA WALLA, Aug. 20. (ff)- Mrs. Tryphcna Money, whose parents. Mr. and Mrs. Almorah Hill, started for Oregon with the wagon train of 1843 which Dr. Marcus Whitman ac companied, dted today at the age of 83 years. (AP) Missing a week, the vanished Soviet transpolar fivers will be the object of one of the most wide spread International aerial searches in Alaska-Arctic history with arrival this week-end of Sir Hubert Wllktns, noted explorer, end a party of five In a 17-ton flying boat. Sir Hubert and his pilot, Herbert Hollick-Kenyon, noted Canadian air man, arrived at Port Arthur. Ont., from Toronto, and planned to take off for Fort Smith, N. W, T., 1,200 miles distant. The huge silver flying boat, pur chased by the Russian government for the expedition, will then fly north to Join other aviators In the search for Slglsmund Levanoffsky, who, with five companions, was last heard from a week ago today, several hours before his four-motored plane was expected In Fairbanks to refuel for a United States dash. Transient Booked " On Shoplift Charge Steve Jallshok, 47. a transient from Michigan, was arrested by city po lice this afternoon and Is being held In the city Jail on a charge of shop lifting. He wilt appear In court to morrow morning. Jallshok was placed under arrest after allegedly stealing a package of pickling spice and two onions from Oates and Lydlard Groceteria num ber 1, city police stated. THREATEN 'STAY OUT KLAMATH FALLS, Aug. 30 -(AP) The Klamath Falls Culinary Alliance today was threatening a "stay out" strike starting Sept. 1 In protest against a recently-adopted city ordi nance requiring semi-annual physical examinations for all food handlers. Sept. 1 is the deadltno set for ex aminations under the ordinance, and members of the alliance voted last night not to go to work on that date unless they are assured the ordinance will not be enforced. G. C. Tatman, representative of the alliance, said the food handlers are strongly In favor of tho examinations but object to paying the $2 examina tion fee.
