Mrs. Roland Parks, of Ashland, were Med ford visitors this morning,, Guest from Portland Mrs. Grace Thorbus of Portland la visiting at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Elbert Coleman. Traffic Survey State police this morning started a 24-hour traffic survey In and near Med ford, purpose of which Is to check on operators' permits and equipment. Special Zonta Meeting A special meeting of the Zonta club has been called by Mrs. Margaret Fabrick, president, for 7:30 Friday evening. August 13, at the studio of Mrs. Effle Kurtz. 204 North Ivy street. Several Important business matters are to be discussed at this time and all Zon tlans are requested to be present. Navy Honor Man Atvln C. Frerlchs was selected as "weekly honor man" out of 120 men In his company at the United States naval training station at San Diego for the week ending August , Ernest M. West, recruiting officer here, was notified today. The honor Is based on personal appear ance. Initiative and the capacity to profit from Instructions. Frerlchs Is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Fre rlchs of Grants Pass. He was accept ed for enlistment at the recruiting station here and was enlisted at Portland last May 19. SEASON HERE ! Townsend Meeting To wnsend club No. 1 will hold a regular meeting Friday evening in Knights of Pythias hall at Fifth and Grape streets. F., in the hall on West Sixth street at the regular semi monthly meeting to be held at 8 o'clock. The degree staff states that refreshments will be served following tne meeting. McCredle Returns Police Chief Clatous McCredle returned to Med ford last night from Oakland, Cal., where he attended the annual con vention of the Pacific Coast Inter national Association of Law-Enforce-ment Officers. Chief McCredie, with his wife, was gone eight dayB. Next year's convention will be held In Van couver, B. C. On Flight North Jerry Fairbanks, Los Angeles business man, stopped at Medford municipal airport this morn ing to have his Stinson plane re fueled. He was en route to Portland Lieut. B. T. Wftdman of March field, Riverside, Cal,. arrived late yesterday In a Northrup attack plane from the south. He returned to his post as soon as his ship had been serviced. Carrier HearingHearing was held In the federal courtroom here today on the application of Farnum Motor Freight for a certificate of public con venience and necessity to operate be tween Medford and Portland and to extend Its service between Drain and Grants Pass. A. E. Step h an, exam iner for the Interstate commerce com mission, was In charge of the hearing. Storms Predicted Thunderstorms are likely to occur In the south Cas cade and Siskiyou mountains late to day and tomorrow, according to a re port received this morning by Rogue River national forest headquarters here. Humidity was forecast as mod erate to moderately low. Thunder storms in the mountains create the danger of forest fires set by light ning, headquarters pointed out, Schtslers Leave Ralph Schlsler, Los Angeles produce company execu tive, and Mrs. Schlsler. left for Port land from Medford municipal airport in their Stinson plane this morning. They spent yesterday and last night at the Rogue River Lodge near Trail, having arrived here In the morning from the south. They were accom panied north this morning by Joe Weissenbach, Oakland, Cal., aviator who has been vacationing at Rogue River Lodge. The baby has been named Janice Sandra. Mr. Stevens formerly resided near Talent. Mrs. Stevens Is the former Ercel Young and is well known here. Wins Trip M. C. Wright, district agent of the Bankers Life company of Des Moines, Iowa, for Jackson, Josephine and Klamath counties, will leave tomorrow to attend the com pany's school of instruction at the Paxton hotel, Omaha, Neb., from Au gust 16 to 20. In qualifying for the trip, Mr. Wright produced consider ably more business than his required quota, the company announoed. On Inspection Tour L. S. Gross, member of the United States forest service staff at Washington, D. C, in charge of planting, and J. P. Kummel, member of the timber management staff at the Portland regional office, called late yesterday afternoon at Medford headquarters of the Rogue River national forest. They were on a tour of Inspection of planting areas and left to look over the South Fork region. They were to continue today to eastern Oregon. Return from Portland Mr. and Mrs. George T. Frey and chllden re turned home yesterday from a four day trip to Portland. M. Frey, man ager of the Medford branch of the United States National bank of Port land, attended a meeting of the pub lic educational committee of the Ore gon State Bankers' association, of which he Is a member, and also vis ited his head office. L HIT BY STANFIELD PORTLAND, Aug. 13. (JP) Former Senator Robert N. Stanfleld charged In an Interview here that "like other almable and complacent governors," Governor Charles Martin was play ing politics with eastern Oregon grac ing landa at the expense of the irre ducible school fund. He referred to a current contro versy over the metthod of consolida tion of 700,000 acres of state-owned lands through exchange with the fed eral government. Stanfleld opposed the recommen dation of a committee of nine that the land be combined in small acre ages on the basis of availability for grazing purposes, contending that fewer large sections would result in more revenue from rentals. 1931 CROP LOANS WASHINGTON, Aug. 1J.
