NEW 'MASS JOB HUNT SALEM, Aug. 12. ( AP) T. M. Phillips, Portland, secretary of the Workers Alliance, made an appoint ment today with Governor Martin for 4 p. m. tomorrow, when he said WPA workers who have been forced off relief would come here on a "mass job hunt." The workers originally were sched uled to come here yesterday. Governor Martin said he would have a list of 5.64 Jobs available for the 3,000 workers who have been forced off the rolls by the govern ment's curtailment of relief activities. Eugene Bank Has Record Deposits EUGENE, Ore.. Aug. IS. ( AP) An all-time high mark in deposits and total resources was announced to day by the First National bauk in a statement which estimated the total resources of the bank at 7,667,&92. Deposits were set at $7,120,573, while current loans were believed to exceed 91,664,791, almost equaling the 1929 peak. DANISH SHIP SINKS FOLLOWING COLLISION HEW YORK, Aug. 13. Last summer an expedition found about 3.000,000 pearl-oysters In tha rivers of the Kola peninsula. As is known, an irritation by an alien body causes the mollusk to emit mother-of-pearl, which coats this alien body, forming a pearl cap sule around it. With this In mind, the expedition conducted Interesting experiments. Several hundred pearl oysters were caught, and their shells opened. A small shot was introduced into the body of each oollusk which was then thrown Into the river. AT AKRON. O. (UP)--In two yesrs as a gasoline station attendant, Walter Thompson has dissuaded ten persons from suicide. Thompson's station Is at the end of a bridge chosen often by persons as a place to end their livas. When he sees someone ready to Jump, he rushes out and persuades him there Is something to live for.
